Musi-Video Show
''Musi-Video'' was a music video series which ran in Canada between 1980 and 1984, syndicated to community channels across Canada. It was a very early example of the format that later would be adopted by the creation of MTV and MuchMusic. It was the creation of Marc Fontaine, who was also behind the new wave pop group Nudimension. Produced in Montreal, it featured early 1980s music artists playing live in a studio and early music videos. In 2008 the Musi-Video brand was revived as a Music publishing label by Marc Fontaine. A music video is a video of variable duration, that integrates a music song or a music album with imagery that is produced for promotion (marketing), promotional or musical artistic purposes. Modern music videos are primarily made and used as a music marketing device intended to promote the sale of Music Recording, music recordings. Although the origins of music videos date back to musical short, musical short films that first appeared, they again came into prominence when Paramount Global's MTV based its format around the medium. Anne Marie Cyr
Anne Marie Cyr (born 1963) is a French Canadian singer, TV presenter and occasional model; who was active during the early 1980s. Born and raised in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Cyr came to prominence in her late teens on Montreal cable television assisting and presenting on shows such as '' Musi-Video'' (a forerunner to Canada's ''MuchMusic''). She fitted in her TV presenting and pop career with studying communications at Montreal's Concordia University. While working at ''Musi-Video'', she was asked to provide female backing vocals for the synthpop band Nudimension who were appearing on the show. Originally selected to appear with Nudimension mainly for her good looks, it would soon become apparent to band founders Louis Rondeau and Marc Fontaine that Cyr was also a very competent, bilingual vocalist, and she was retained to work on the band's two albums (one in French and the other in English). Martha Ladly
Martha Jane Ladly is a Canadian academic, designer and musician. She is a professor of design at OCAD University. Ladly also has had a long career as a musician and achieved international fame as part of rock band Martha and the Muffins. She had a solo career in the mid-1980s and then worked in design and education. Musical career A student at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto, Ontario, Ladly was invited to join new wave band Martha and the Muffins in 1978. She became one of two vocalists and keyboard players named Martha in the band. The other Martha was Martha Johnson, who sang lead on the majority of the group's songs, including their biggest hit, 1980's "Echo Beach". Ladly played with the band from 1978 to 1980 and sang lead vocals on the group's seventh single, "Was Ezo", which she co-composed. Ladly left the band in August 1980 for an art scholarship. The 222s
The 222s was a Canadian punk band active from 1978 to 2018. They are among the first original Canadian punk bands and the first to emerge from Montreal. They are best known for their 1979 single ''I Love Susan''. History The 222s, who took their name from the painkiller of the same name, was formed in 1977, by guitarist Pierre 'Al Cleann' Major and singer Jean 'Frisson' Brisson, bass player/drummer Angel Calvo, and drummer, keyboardist and singer Louie 'Louie Louis' Rondeau. The band played a handful of gigs around Montreal, mostly in high schools. Calvo left the band and was replaced by bassist Christian 'Chris O'Bell' Belleau, while Brisson's departure coincided with the recording of the 222s first single, ''I Love Susan b/w The First Studio Bomb''. Simple Minds are a Scottish rock band formed in Glasgow in 1977. Men Without Hats
Men Without Hats are a Canadian New wave music, new wave and synth-pop band, originally from Montreal, Quebec. Their music is characterized by the baritone voice of their lead singer Ivan Doroschuk, as well as their elaborate use of synthesizers and electronic processing. They achieved their greatest popularity in the 1980s with "The Safety Dance", a worldwide top ten hit (No. 3 in the United States), and "Pop Goes the World (song), Pop Goes the World". After a hiatus for most of the 1990s and 2000s, Doroschuk reformed the band in 2010, and released ''Love in the Age of War'' (2012). Erica Ehm
Erica Miechowsky (born September 30, 1961), known professionally as Erica Ehm, is a Canadian writer, actor, songwriter, entrepreneur and TV host. She is best known as a pioneering video jockey at the Canadian cable television station MuchMusic. Biography She got her first job at CHOM-FM sorting records for DJs. She began her television career by contributing to '' Musi-Video'', a local rock and video show produced in Montreal, Quebec. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Ottawa. Ehm moved to Toronto where she found a job working as a receptionist at Citytv, which owned the soon-to-launch cable channel MuchMusic, and when the new station began hiring video jockeys in 1984 she applied and became one of the station's first VJs. Ehm left MuchMusic in 1994, after ten years, to concentrate on her songwriting career.
