Murray Bridge railway station is located on the Adelaide to Wolseley line serving the South Australian town of Murray Bridge. History Murray Bridge station was opened in 1880s as part of the Adelaide-Wolseley railway line. The line opened in stages: on 14 March 1883 from Adelaide to Aldgate, on 28 November 1883 to Nairne, on 1 May 1886 to Bordertown and on 19 January 1887 to Serviceton. It was operated by South Australian Railways, in March 1978 it was transferred to Australian National and in July 1998 to the Australian Rail Track Corporation. Murray Bridge (formerly Mobilong and Edwards Crossing) is a city in the Australian state of South Australia, located east-southeast of the state's capital city, Adelaide, and north of the town of Meningie. Adelaide Railway Station
Adelaide Railway Station is the central terminus of the Adelaide Metro railway system. All lines approach the station from the west, and it is a terminal station with no through lines, with most of the traffic on the metropolitan network either departing or terminating here. It has nine platforms, all using broad gauge track. It is located on the north side of North Terrace, west of Parliament House. The Adelaide Casino occupies part of the building that is no longer required for railway use. Aldgate Railway Station, Adelaide
Aldgate railway station was located on the Adelaide-Wolseley line in the Adelaide Hills suburb of Aldgate, 34.9 kilometres from Adelaide station. History Aldgate station opened on 14 March 1883, and on 23 December 1886, a second platform was added. From 1 May 1910, most services from Adelaide station were extended to terminate at Aldgate. On 1 July 1929, the westbound platform was converted to an island platform. In 1974, the goods siding was replaced by a second crossing loop. It was very similar to Blackwood; the station building and shelter were the same. It was closed to local trains on 23 September 1987, but until 1990 was available for passengers wishing to board the Mount Gambier-bound railcar service. At the time of closure, Aldgate had three platforms. Platform 1 was a 151-metre-long side platform, and platforms 2 and 3 were a 149-metre-long island platform. Nairne Railway Station
Nairne railway station is located in the Adelaide Hills town of Nairne, about 55 kilometres from Adelaide station. History Nairne station opened on 27 November 1883, as the interim terminus of the Adelaide-Wolseley line. The station's facilities were similar to that of Balhannah, except the station building was made of stone. Nairne had two platforms, the smaller one had a 45-metre platform with a small shelter. History The railway arrived in Bordertown on 22 September 1881 when the Kingston SE to Naracoorte, South Australia, Narracoorte line was extended north. Serviceton Railway Station
Serviceton railway station is located on the Western standard gauge line in Victoria, Australia, in the small town of Serviceton, by rail from Melbourne. Opened in 1889, and closed in 1986, today it is leased to West Wimmera Shire Council for community group use. History The Adelaide-Wolseley line was extended from Bordertown in South Australia on 19 January 1887 coinciding with the opening of the line from Dimboola in Victoria. The Premier of South Australia, John Downer, wrote to his Victorian equivalent, James Service, suggesting that the new border railway town and station be named Downer after him. Service wrote back and said that as it was in Victoria, it would be named Serviceton after himself, although at the time of construction the land was claimed by both colonies.
