Murder At Monkey Hill
''Murder at Monkey Hill'' is 1976 Indian film written and directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. The short film in Black-and-white was made by Vidhu Vinod Chopra as his final project while doing his diploma at FTII. Vinod Chopra, himself, played the lead role with Anjali Paigankar while Dilip Dhawan and Mehmood (not the famous Bollywood comedy actor) made short appearances in the film. Vidhu's 1981 movie ''Sazaye Maut'' is based on this movie. Plot A professional hitman Akhtar is hired by Seth to murder a girl Prabhi. But as Akhtar charms her to get near her to kill her he actually falls in love with her. At loss to honour his commitment to murder for which he has taken one lakh rupee and finding himself unable to kill her, he pays a woodcutter to do that. As the woodcutter chases Prabhi with an axe in his hand, the film comes to an abrupt end without showing if he succeeds or not. Vidhu Vinod Chopra
Vidhu Vinod Chopra (born 5 September 1952) is an Indian film director, producer, editor, screenwriter, lyricist and actor. His well-known films as director are ''Parinda'' (1988), '' 1942: A Love Story'' (1994). He is also known for producing '' Munna Bhai film series'', ''3 Idiots'' (2009), '' PK'' (2014), ''Sanju'' (2018) under his banner Vinod Chopra Films. Early life Chopra was born and grew up in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India. His father was D. N. Chopra and veteran filmmaker Ramanand Sagar was his half-brother. His father's family originally came from Peshawar, British India. His mother was Shanti Devi Mahalakshmi who left Kashmir with him and family after the exodus and mass killings of Kashmiri Pandits due to the Kashmir conflict in 1990. Anjali Paigankar
Anjali Paigankar is a Hindi and Marathi film actress. A graduate of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune, Anjali appeared in ''Murder at Monkey Hill'', Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s diploma film as a final year student there in 1976. The short film was noticed in parallel cinema circles earning work for many of the students involved in the film. The previous year she had already appeared in a short role in Shyam Benegal’s ''Charandas Chor''. In 1977, she appeared in Amol Palekar starrer ''Taxi-Taxie'' but the film flopped. Anjali went on to act in a Marathi film ''Sarvasakshi'' and a Hindi film '' Dillagi'', both released in 1978. The Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) is a film institute under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting of the Government of India and aided by the Central Government of India. Renu Saluja (5 July 1952 – 16 August 2000) was an Indian film editor. In the 1980s and 1990s, she worked with both mainstream and art house Hindi cinema directors, including Govind Nihalani, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Sudhir Mishra, Shekhar Kapoor, Mahesh Bhatt, and Vijay Singh.
