Municipality Of Bulong
The Municipality of Bulong was a local government area in Western Australia centred on the mining town of Bulong. It was established on 13 November 1896, separating the Bulong township from the North-East Coolgardie Road District. The gazetting of a municipality followed lobbying from the Bulong Progress Committee, which passed on a sum of £217 to the new council upon its establishment. The first election was held on 21 December 1896, with E. H. B. Macartney elected the first Mayor of Bulong. The council consisted of a directly elected mayor and six councillors. It initially met in temporary council chambers in Colin Street, before completing construction of permanent chambers in Reid Street in 1897. The council grappled with the issues of establishing many basic amenities for the town, including establishing a cemetery, fire brigade, and recreation reserve, with the recreation reserve formally vested in the council in 1898. There are 137 local government areas of Western Australia (LGAs), which are areas, towns and districts in Western Australia that manage their own affairs to the extent permitted by the ''Local Government Act 1995''. Bulong, Western Australia
Bulong is an abandoned town in Western Australia located east of Perth in the Goldfields-Esperance region of Western Australia. In 1893 a group of prospectors, Hogan, Henry, Holmes, Kennedy and Turnbull, discovered gold on a lease they were granted called IOU. A surveyor named G. Hamilton was given instructions to design the town layout in 1894, which was to be named IOU. Hamilton suggested the name be changed to the Indigenous Australian name of a nearby spring called Bulong. The townsite was gazetted in 1895. On the back of gold mining the population of the town grew to 620 by 1900, and it boasted large number of businesses including several hotels, bakeries, accountants, butchers and stores. The town also had a hospital, school, police station, telegraph station and post office. The town's water supply was obtained from Lake Yindarlagooda, condensed on the lake's banks then pumped to the top of Mount Stuart to gravity feed to the town. The Kanowna Road District was an early form of local government area on the Western Australian goldfields. ''The Kalgoorlie Miner'' (commonly known as ''The Miner'') is a daily newspaper circulating in the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the Goldfields-Esperance region, in Western Australia. Coolgardie Miner
The ''Coolgardie Miner'' (18 April 1894 – 16 June 1911) was a weekly newspaper established in Coolgardie, Western Australia, at a time when Coolgardie was the prominent town in the goldfields region of Western Australia. The subsequent publication with the same title (1 March 1913 – 29 December 1917) was published in a time when Kalgoorlie was dominating the goldfields, and Coolgardie's decline as centre had set in. The third newspaper with this name was published in 1935, ceasing in 1957 when it was merged with the ''Great Eastern News'', which ceased publication in 1958. Royal Western Australian Historical Society has for many decades been the main association for Western Australians to collectively work for adequate understanding and protection of the cultural heritage of Perth and Western Australia. It was founded in 1926. With membership including local historians and writers, it preceded the Western Australian branch of the National Trust and the History Council of Western Australia by decades. Based in Nedlands it holds many important objects and archives relative to Western Australian history. The RWAHS is a constituent member of the Federation of Australian Historical Societies.
