Alice Mumford is a Colombia-born painter born in 1965. Biography Mumford attended Dartington Hall School between 1978 and 1982 before studying at Southwark College of Art and Design in London until 1984. She studied at the Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts from 1984 to 1987 and enrolled for a master's degree at Falmouth College of Art in 1995. Mumford lives and works in Cornwall and teaches life drawing and painting at St Ives School of Painting and is an Academician of the Royal West of England Academy. Professor Richard Demarco has said of her work "I delight in the mark-making of Alice Mumford. Her brush strokes animate the surface of paper, canvas and board." Mumford often uses reflected images in her paintings, painting the mirror image of an object rather than the object itself to create a sense of space. The Muppets are a group of puppet characters created by Jim Henson, many for the purpose of appearing on the children's television program ''Sesame Street''. William Bruce Mumford (December 5, 1819 – June 7, 1862) was a North Carolinian native and resident of New Orleans, who was hanged for tearing down a United States flag during the American Civil War. Early life Mumford's life leading up to the incident which resulted in his execution was relatively insignificant. A native of North Carolina, he owned no slaves, nor much of anything else, and had not volunteered to fight. As an adult, Mumford was a gambler. Thomas Mumford
Thomas Mumford (1625–1692) is the progenitor of the Mumford family that left England and settled in Rhode Island. He was one of the earliest settlers in Rhode Island. Mumford and several other men participated in "the Pettaquamscutt purchase" which secured a large tract of land along Narragansett Bay for the English colonists. This area now includes the towns of North and South Kingstown, RI. In 1664 Mumford was appointed High Sheriff of the region, in 1665 the Inspector General. During King Philip's War the Great Swamp Fight occurred on Mumford's land. The battle dealt a severe blow to the Narragansett Indian tribe from which they never fully recovered. Mumford is best known for his work in metaphysics on dispositions and laws, but has also made contributions in the philosophy of sport. Biography Mumford was born in Wakefield, West Yorkshire.
