Mullen, Nebraska
Mullen is a village in Hooker County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 509 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hooker County. History Mullen was laid out in 1888 when the railroad was extended to that point. It was named for Charles Mullen, a railroad official. The only settlement in Hooker County, Mullen was designated the county seat and the first courthouse was completed in 1889. Mullen was incorporated as a village in 1907. Geography Mullen is located at (42.042480, -101.045611), in the Nebraska Sandhills. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of , all land. Mullen High School (formerly J.K. Mullen High School) is a Roman Catholic, Brothers of the Christian Schools, college-preparatory high school in Denver, Colorado. It is run independently within the Archdiocese of Denver. History Mullen High School was named for John Kernan Mullen, businessman, philanthropist, and founder of the Colorado Milling and Elevator Company. Together with his wife, Catherine, Mullen envisioned the founding of a high school in Denver for orphaned boys. In 1928, working with Henry Tihen, Mullen contacted Edward Flanagan, the founder of Boys Town, for advice on how best to design and operate such a school. Following Flanagan's recommendation, Mullen wrote to the Christian Brothers of St. John Baptist de La Salle in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and invited them to be the directors and teachers of his planned school. Mullens is a city in Wyoming County, West Virginia. The population was 1,475 at the time of the 2020 census. Located in a valley along the Guyandotte River within a mountainous region of southern West Virginia, the town was nearly destroyed by flash flooding in July 2001. While the town has attempted to redevelop with the aid of state and federal recovery money, many local businesses and residents have left the area permanently. History Mullens was incorporated as a town on September 17, 1912 and operated under a charter issued by the Circuit Court of Wyoming County. It was named for A. J.
