Muhanad Al-Halak
Muhanad Al-Halak (born 31 July 1989) is a German politician of the Free Democratic Party and since October 2021 Member of the German Bundestag. Early life Al-Halak was born in Iraq, and came to Germany with his family as asylum seekers, settling in Grafenau in Bavaria. Political career Al-Halak joined the FDP in 2016. He was an unsuccessful candidate in the 2019 European Parliament election in Germany. Member of the German Parliament, 2021–present In the 2021 German federal election Al-Halak contested the constituency of Deggendorf and came in 6th place. He was elected on the state list. In parliament, Al-Halak has since been serving on the Committee on the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety, and Consumer Protection and the Parliamentary Advisory Board on Sustainable Development. Free Democratic Party (Germany)
The Free Democratic Party (german: link=no, Freie Demokratische Partei; FDP, ) is a liberal political party in Germany. The FDP was founded in 1948 by members of former liberal political parties which existed in Germany before World War II, namely the German Democratic Party and the German People's Party. For most of the second half of the 20th century, the FDP held the balance of power in the Bundestag. It has been a junior coalition partner to both the CDU/CSU (1949–1956, 1961–1966, 1982–1998 and 2009–2013) and Social Democratic Party of Germany (1969–1982, 2021–presenter).
