Moyvane
Moyvane (), also sometimes known as Newtownsandes, is a small village in County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. It is situated off the N69 road between Listowel to the southwest and Tarbert to the north. The village of Knockanure lies to the immediate south. The parish in which the village is located is now also known as the "Parish of Moyvane". It was originally called the parish of Murhur, which was part of the historic barony of Iraghticonnor. History The name of "Moyvane", which in Irish is "Maigh Mheáin" meaning "the middle plain", was adopted by the village in 1939 when a plebiscite was held by Father O'Sullivan, who was the parish priest at the time. It is the name of a townland situated about two miles southwest of the actual village itself and this area resembles a flat plain landscape that extends for miles around. The Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) (or Kerry GAA), one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and responsible for Gaelic games in County Kerry, organises sports competitions for the county's clubs. North Kerry Senior Football Championship
The North Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for GAA clubs affiliated to the North Kerry Division of Kerry. The official name of the competition is The Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, in honour of the late Bernie O'Callaghan (Beale) who was Chairman of the North Kerry GAA Board for 25 years (1974 to 1998) and did a huge amount of work for North Kerry football. The Championship runs from October to December each year but has on occasion continued into the New Year due to replays and postponements. Fourteen clubs are eligible to play in the Championship: Asdee, Ballydonoghue, Ballyduff, Ballylongford, Beale, Brosna, Castleisland Desmonds, Duagh, Finuge, Knocknagoshel, Listowel Emmets, Moyvane, St. Senan's and Tarbert. Kerry Senior Football Championship
The Kerry Senior Football Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as Garvey’s SuperValu Senior Football Championship) is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by the Kerry County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association since 1889 for the top Gaelic football teams in the county of Kerry in Ireland. The series of games are played during the summer and autumn months, with the county final currently being played in either Austin Stack Park or FitzGerald Stadium in October. Initially played as a knock-out competition, the championship currently uses a double elimination format whereby each team is guaranteed at least two games. Feale Rangers
Feale Rangers is a North Kerry Divisional Gaelic football team in Kerry. The teams involved are Clounmacon, Duagh, Finuge, Gale Rangers, Listowel Emmets, Moyvane and St Senan's. History The first mention of Feale Rangers was in 1956 when a Feale Rangers side represented North Kerry in the Kerry Senior Football Championship after two previous sides, North Kerry and Shannon Rangers joined forces. This newly formed team contested the County Finals in 1959 and 1962 to John Mitchels and the semi-final in 1963, which they lost to eventual winners John Mitchels. This was no bad result versus the great John Mitchels team that won the County Finals 5 times in a row in 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962 and 1963. Jim Brosnan (footballer)
Jim Brosnan (1930 – 3 December 2011) was a Gaelic footballer, manager and administrator from Co. Kerry. He played with Kerry during the 1940s and 1950s. Personal life Brosnan started his life in Moyvane, being the son of the famous Con. Con collected six medals back in the twenties and thirties. His brother Mick, who was also a doctor, spent his life practising in England. Brosnan practised his medicine in Dingle. Club He played club football with Moyvane and Shannon Rangers. He won a number of North Kerry Senior Football Championships with Moyvane. He won All-Irelands with Kerry in 1953 and 1955. He was flown home specially for the 1955 final from America. Patrick Curtin
Patrick Curtin (17 March 1989 – 29 December 2015) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-forward for the Kerry senior football team. Born in Moyvane, County Kerry, Curtin first played competitive Gaelic football in his youth. At club level he played with Moyvane. Curtin arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Kerry minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 2012 league. He would go on to play for Kerry for two seasons. He made a total of six championship appearances for Kerry.
