Moyvane
Moyvane (), also sometimes known as Newtownsandes, is a small village in County Kerry in the south west of Ireland. It is situated off the N69 road (Ireland), N69 road between Listowel to the southwest and Tarbert, Kerry, Tarbert to the north. The village of Knockanure lies to the immediate south. The parish in which the village is located is now also known as the "Parish of Moyvane". It was originally called the parish of Murhur, which was part of the Barony (Ireland), historic barony of Iraghticonnor. History The name of "Moyvane", which in Irish is "Maigh Mheáin" meaning "the middle plain", was adopted by the village in 1939 when a plebiscite was held by Father O'Sullivan, who was the parish priest at the time. It is the name of a townland situated about two miles southwest of the actual village itself and this area resembles a flat plain landscape that extends for miles around. North Kerry Senior Football Championship
The North Kerry Senior Football Championship is a Gaelic football competition for Gaelic Athletic Association, GAA clubs affiliated to the North Kerry Division of Kerry GAA, Kerry. The official name of the competition is The Bernard O'Callaghan Memorial North Kerry Senior Football Championship, in honour of the late Bernie O'Callaghan (Beale) who was Chairman of the North Kerry GAA Board for 25 years (1974 to 1998) and did a huge amount of work for North Kerry football. The Championship runs from October to December each year but has on occasion continued into the New Year due to replays and postponements. Patrick Curtin
Patrick Curtin (17 March 1989 – 29 December 2015) was an Irish Gaelic footballer who played as a left corner-forward for the Kerry senior football team. Born in Moyvane, County Kerry, Curtin first played competitive Gaelic football in his youth. At club level he played with Moyvane. Curtin arrived on the inter-county scene when he first linked up with the Kerry minor team before later joining the under-21 and junior sides. He made his senior debut during the 2012 league. He would go on to play for Kerry for two seasons. He made a total of six championship appearances for Kerry. Pat Ahern (director)
Pat Ahern is an Irish Roman Catholic priest, traditional musician, composer, and the founder, artistic director and producer (1974–1997) of Siamsa Tíre, the Irish National Folk Theatre which performed throughout Ireland and on three continents. Life He was born in 1932 in Leitrim Middle, Moyvane (formerly Newtownsandes), north Kerry into a family immersed in Irish traditional music. His mother played traditional fiddle, as did his cousin Barney Enright of Moyvane. Pat's brother Seán is a singer and plays the uilleann pipes. Pat learnt the fiddle from his mother, and Irish step-dancing from the famous Kerry dance master Jeremiah Molyneaux. Pat attended primary school in Moyvane (1938–1944), subsequently enrolling at St Michael's College, Listowel (1944–1948). Listowel ( ; , IPA:[ˈlʲɪsˠˈt̪ˠuəhəlʲ]) is a heritage market town in County Kerry, Ireland. It is on the River Feale, from the county town, Tralee. The town of Listowel had a population of 4,820 according to the Central Statistics Office of Ireland, CSO Census 2016. Tommy Stack
Tommy Stack (born 15 November 1945 in Moyvane, County Kerry, Ireland) is a former National Hunt racing jockey and trainer. As a jockey, he is probably best known for piloting Red Rum to a third Grand National victory. Stack was National Hunt Champion Jockey for the 1974–75 and 1976-77 seasons. He got his first trainer's licence in 1986. In 1994 he trained Las Meninas to win the 1000 Guineas. His other major winners include Tarascon (Irish 1000 Guineas) and Kostroma ( Beverly D. Stakes). Stack survived a life-threatening viral infection in December 1998. Following his recovery, he had further international success with Myboycharlie (Prix Morny) and Alexander Tango (Garden City Stakes). He trained at Golden, County Tipperary and retired as a trainer at the end of the 2016 flat racing season, handing over the licence to his son, James "Fozzy" Stack. Eoin Hand
Eoin Kevin Joseph Colin Hand (born 30 March 1946) is an Irish former footballer and football manager. As a player, his normal position was centre-half. He works as a television and radio football commentator for RTÉ in Ireland. Playing career Hand played schoolboy football with Stella Maris. As a 17-year-old, Hand was signed by Swindon Town but the move did not work out and he returned quickly to Ireland. He started his League of Ireland career with short spells for Dundalk F.C. and Shelbourne F.C. but it was with Drumcondra F.C. that he found most success. After a series of outstanding displays, he was signed by Portsmouth F.C. for a transfer fee of £8,000 in October 1968. Hand impressed enough at Portsmouth to earn a call up to the Republic of Ireland national football team and went on to earn 19 caps for his country. Seán Walsh (born 6 April 1957) is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who played for the Kerins O'Rahilly's club and at senior level for the Kerry county team between 1976 and 1987, during which he won seven All-Ireland SFC titles.
