Mountaineers Women's Cricket Team
The Mountaineers women's cricket team is a Zimbabwean women's cricket team based in Mutare. They compete in the Fifty50 Challenge and the Women's T20 Cup. They won the inaugural edition of the Fifty50 Challenge in 2020–21, and the Women's T20 Cup in 2022–23. History The team were formed in 2020, to compete in Zimbabwe's two new women's domestic competitions: the Fifty50 Challenge and the Women's T20 Cup. In the Women's T20 Cup, the side finished third in the group stage, winning two of their six matches. In the Fifty50 Challenge, the side topped the group with four wins from their six matches to qualify for the final. In the final, they restricted Rhinos to 210 all out, before winning by 62 runs via the Duckworth–Lewis–Stern method, with Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano making 85. Mountaineers bowler Francesca Chipare was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament. Pellagia Mujaji
Pellagia Mujaji (born 9 October 1991) is a Zimbabwean cricketer. She played for the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team in the 2017 Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier in February 2017. In February 2021, she was named in Zimbabwe's squad for their home series against Pakistan. In September 2021, she was named in Zimbabwe's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for the 2021 ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier tournament in Botswana. 2021–22 Women's T20 Cup
The 2021–22 Women's T20 Cup was the second edition of the Women's T20 Cup, a Twenty20 women's cricket competition played in Zimbabwe. The tournament took place between 24 and 31 March 2022, with four teams competing in a double round-robin group stage. Eagles won the tournament, beating Mountaineers to claim their second T20 title in two seasons. The tournament followed the Fifty50 Challenge, also won by Eagles. Competition format Teams played in a double round-robin in a group of four, therefore playing 6 matches overall. Matches were played using a Twenty20 format. The top two in the group advanced to the final. The group worked on a points system with positions being based on the total points. Points are awarded as follows: Win: 10 points. Off Spin
Off spin is a type of finger spin bowling in cricket. A bowler who uses this technique is called an off spinner. Off spinners are right arm, right-handed spin bowling, spin bowlers who use their fingers to spin the ball. Loryn Phiri (born 4 November 1998) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who plays for the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team. In January 2019, Phiri was named in Zimbabwe's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their five-match series against Namibia. The matches were the first WT20I matches to be played by Zimbabwe since the International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded WT20I status to all of its members in July 2018. Mutare Sports Club
Mutare Sports Club is a cricket ground in Mutare, Manicaland Province, Zimbabwe. It is located just to the south-east of the city centre, next to Main Park. It has been the home ground of the Mountaineers, one of Zimbabwe's first-class cricket franchises, since they were formed in 2009. Prior to the reorganisation of Zimbabwean cricket, it was the home ground of the Manicaland team. The ground was originally called the Umtali Sports Club, before Umtali was renamed as Mutare in 1982. The first List A cricket match at the ground took place in March 1984, when Zimbabwe played the touring Young India team. Francisca Chipare (born 1 October 1998) is a Zimbabwean cricketer who plays for the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team. In February 2021, Chipare was named in Zimbabwe's Women's Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad for their series against Pakistan.
