Mount Frankland South National Park is a national park in Western Australia. It lies mostly in the South West Region, with the eastern portion in Great Southern Region. It was designated in 2004, and covers an area of 422.99 km2. It is part of the larger Walpole Wilderness Area that was established in the same year. It adjoins Mount Frankland National Park to the north and northeast, and Mount Roe National Park to the east. The Walpole Wilderness Area is a group of conservation reserves on the south coast of Western Australia. The area includes vast tracts of jarrah, red tingle and karri forests surrounding granite peaks, rivers, heathlands, and wetlands. Coastal features include inlets and sandy beaches, sheer cliffs and the Southern Ocean. Mount Frankland National Park
Mount Frankland National Park is a national park in the South West region of Western Australia, south of Perth. The park is part of the larger Walpole Wilderness Area that was established in 2004, an international biodiversity hotspot. Geography It covers an area of 371.22 square kilometres in the low granite hills to the north of the town of Walpole. Mount Frankland (411 metres), known as Caldyanup to the aboriginal inhabitants, is a granite peak which offers panoramic views across the landscape. There is a fire lookout atop the mountain. Mount Roe National Park is a national park in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia. It was designated in 2004, and covers an area of 1278 km2. Geography The park covers an area of 1277.26 km2. It is bounded on the north west by Lake Muir National Park, on the west by Mount Frankland North and Mount Frankland National Parks, on the south west by Mount Frankland South National Park, and on the south east by Mount Lindesay National Park. D'Entrecasteaux National Park
D'Entrecasteaux National Park is a national park in Western Australia, south of Perth. The park is named after the French Admiral Bruni D'Entrecasteaux who was the first European to sight the area and name Point D'Entrecasteaux in 1792. The park received 168,497 visitors through 2008–2009. Description The park stretches from Black Point in the west to Long Point in the east and extends inland as far as . Black Point is made of basalt columns from a lava flow that occurred 135 million years ago. Walpole-Nornalup National Park
Walpole-Nornalup National Park is a national park in the South West region of Western Australia, south of Perth. It is famous for its towering karri and tingle trees. Red tingle trees are unique to the Walpole area. The park is part of the larger Walpole Wilderness Area that was established in 2004, an international biodiversity hotspot. History The traditional owners of the area are the Murrum of the Minang peoples of the larger Noongar group who have inhabited the region for over 30,000 years. The park is named after the nearby town of Walpole which in turn honours William Walpole, who served alongside James Stirling on HMS '' Warspite'' in 1809. The Noongar peoples know the area as Nor-Nor-Nup, meaning the place of the black snake, which was anglicised as Nornalup. Warren (biogeographic Region)
Warren, also known as Karri Forest Region and the Jarrah-Karri forest and shrublands ecoregion, is a biogeographic region in southern Western Australia. Located in the southwest corner of Western Australia between Cape Naturaliste and Albany, it is bordered to the north and east by the Jarrah Forest region. Its defining characteristic is an extensive tall forest of '' Eucalyptus diversicolor'' (karri). This occurs on dissected, hilly ground, with a moderately wet climate. Karri is a valuable timber and much of the karri forest has been logged over, but less than a third has been cleared for agriculture. Recognised as a region under the Interim Biogeographic Regionalisation for Australia (IBRA), and as a terrestrial ecoregion by the World Wide Fund for Nature, it was first defined by Ludwig Diels in 1906.
