Geography The mountain is high, and forms part of the Berserker Range. The Mount Archer National Park surrounds the mountain. Mount Archer is located within the boundaries of the city of Rockhampton. The summit is accessible by a sealed road, Pilbeam Drive, which leads to the upmarket small suburb of Mount Archer, located just below the summit. Lookouts and picnic areas are located on the summit of the mountain, as well as a number of communications towers. History The mountain was named in 1859 by surveyor Clarendon Stuart after the Archer brothers who established a pastoral property at Gracemere in 1854. Koongal is a suburb of Rockhampton in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. At the , Koongal had a population of 4,286 people. Gracemere is a rural town and locality in the Rockhampton Region, Queensland, Australia. In the , the locality of Gracemere had a population of 11,315 people. Geography Gracemere is approximately west of the city of Rockhampton. Archer Brothers
The Archer brothers were among the earliest European settlers in Queensland, Australia. They were explorers and pastoralists. Seven sons of William Archer, a Scottish timber merchant, they spent varying amounts of time in the colony of New South Wales, mainly in parts of what later became Queensland. A substantial number of locations in Queensland were either named by or for them. Mount Archer National Park
Mount Archer National Park is a national park in Central Queensland, Australia, northwest of Brisbane. It makes up the backdrop to the city of Rockhampton which marks the start of Tropical Queensland. It comprises of open forests and woodland and its highest peak is Mount Archer which stands at above sea level. The Darumbal tribe Raki-warra clan considers the park as a part of its traditional country. It was explored by the Archer brothers in 1853 and was later named after them. In 1898, the site of the park was set aside as a water reserve and a timber reserve in 1940. The grazing went on until 1985 and later the area came under the supervision of the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. It became an environmental park in 1987 and was declared a national park in 1994. The vegetation is mostly open eucalypt woodland with patches of vine scrub. The Rockhampton Region is a local government area (LGA) in Central Queensland, Australia, located on the Tropic of Capricorn about north of Brisbane. Berserker Range
The Berserker Range is a mountainous region located on the eastern and northeastern boundary of the city of Rockhampton in Central Queensland, Australia. Within it lies Mount Archer National Park. It has been designated the ''Berserker Range Environmental Protection Area'' by the Rockhampton Regional Council. The southernmost part of the range reaches the Fitzroy River at Broadmount, east of Rockhampton. Geology The range is composed of a diverse group of mostly igneous rocks dating from the Devonian to Early Triassic Periods. It has its origins in the Early Permian period around 275 million years ago, when the original segment of continental crust stretched and subsequently sagged, leading to the development of two faults and subsequent volcanic activity.
