Mothin Ali
Mothin Ali is a British Green Party politician and a member of Leeds City Council. Politics Ali was elected to Leeds City Council for the Gipton and Harehills ward at the 2024 election. He was criticised by the Leeds Jewish Representative Council after describing his local election victory a "win for the people of Gaza" amidst the Israel–Hamas war. On 7 October during the 2023 Hamas-led attack on Israel, Ali said that people should "support the right of indigenous people to fight back" and said that "they are not victims, they are occupiers, they are colonialists, they are European colonialists". Ali was condemned by the Board of Deputies of British Jews and subsequently apologised for "any upset my comments caused" and said that he does not support violence on either side. ''The Independent'' is a British online newspaper. It was established in 1986 as a national morning printed paper. Nicknamed the ''Indy'', it began as a broadsheet and changed to tabloid format in 2003. The last printed edition was published on Saturday 26 March 2016, leaving only the online edition. Yorkshire Post Newspapers are publishers of the ''Yorkshire Post'' and ''Yorkshire Evening Post''. They were based at offices in Wellington Street, but in November 2012 they moved to Number 1 Leeds, Whitehall Road, where they took four floors in the managed building Leeds, West Yorkshire. They are ultimately owned by JPIMedia. The company was formed as "Yorkshire Conservative Newspaper Company Limited" in 1865, and published the ''Leeds Intelligencer'' (founded 1754) for one year before it was renamed the ''Yorkshire Post''. The ''Yorkshire Evening Post'' is a daily evening publication (delivered to newsagents every morning) published by Yorkshire Post Newspapers in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The paper provides a regional slant on the day's news, and traditionally provides close reporting on Leeds United and Leeds Rhinos as well as the Yorkshire County Cricket Club team. The newspaper generally takes a liberal/centre left position. Despite its title that implies the paper is Yorkshire wide it is a Leeds-based paper, still widely circulated in Bradford, Harrogate, Huddersfield and Wakefield as well. The Commission on Race and Ethnic Disparities (CRED) was a UK Government commission supported by the Race Disparity Unit of the Cabinet Office. It was established in 2020 in the wake of Black Lives Matter George Floyd protests in the United Kingdom, protests following the murder of George Floyd. Boris Johnson gave it the brief of investigating race and ethnic disparities in the UK.
