Mostyshche
Mostyshche is a village at Kalush district, Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ukraine. Origins of the name The original name of the village is Dovhe (ukr. ''dovhe'' - eng. ''long''). The word ''mostyshche'' (eng. ''big bridge'') comes from the location of the village next to the bridge across the Kropyvnyk river. History Establishment The village was founded in 1551. The first of its inhabitants were seven men with their families: Andriy Kravtsovych, Marko Lytvyn, Ivan Popovych, Yats'ko Popovych, Ivan Stankovych, Dan'ko Derkachovych. While in 1564 only 7 families lived in Mostyshche, since 1670 there were already 45 peasant farms. According to the old-timers of the village, Dovhe village could be located to the west of the current Mostyshche village. The today's landscape of people's plots still has the marks of previous land division in Dovhe village. Polonyna ( uk, полонина, polonyna; rue, полонина, polonyna; pl, połonina; sk, polonina) is a specific, regionally-focused geographic term, that is used as a designation for areas of montane meadows (a landform type) in the upper subalpine or alpine zones of the Carpathian Mountains. The term ''polonyna'' was introduced to English from Slavic languages, in order to designate various mountainous regions, mainly in the Eastern Carpathians, and also in the Western Carpathians. The ''polonyna'' type areas of montane meadows are very frequent in the Outer Eastern Carpathians, particularly in the Eastern Beskids. Throughout history, they were used for pasture, and in modern times they have become a popular destination for various forms of recreational tourism. The noun ''polonyna'' (plur. Unpromising Villages
Unpromising, or literally perspectiveless villages (russian: неперспективные деревни) was a term used by the Soviet government in 1960s–80s referring to the small rural settlements, which were considered to be not suitable for a planned economy. The policy of unpromising villages' liquidation included the resettlement of the residents to larger rural settlements with concentration of the bulk of the rural population, production and social facilities. The most negative social impact of this policy was the significant damage done to rural infrastructure. Planning For the first time, the concept of "unpromising villages" was used in recommendations for the design of rural settlements.
