Morriston Town Football Club is an amateur association football team based in Morriston, Swansea, Wales. The club plays in the Ardal Leagues South West, which is tier three of the Welsh football pyramid. Brief History The club was formed in the 1940s as Midland Athletic and played in the Swansea & District League prior to joining the Welsh Football League in 1951. During their time in the Welsh League Morriston Town achieved only limited success, rising to the Welsh Premier Division in the early 1990s. However, by the 2007–08 season, the club was again languishing in the lower echelons of the Welsh League, and after finishing bottom and suffering relegation from the third division, Morriston Town left the Welsh League after more than 50 years. Morriston (; cy, Treforys ) is a Community (Wales), community in the City and County of Swansea, Wales and falls within the Morriston (electoral ward), Morriston ward. It is the largest community in Swansea county. Morriston is sometimes referred to as a distinct town (e.g. the local football club is named Morriston Town A.F.C.), however it has never had a town charter, and is now part of the continuous urban sprawl around Swansea, the centre of which lies three miles to the south-west. Ardal Leagues
The Ardal Leagues are a football league in Wales. The word "ardal" translates as "district" in English, with Wales split into four regions at this level. They have clubs with amateur/semi-professional status and sit at the third level of the Welsh football league system. The first year of their operation would have been 2020–21 but the 2020–21 Ardal North East season, 2020–21 Ardal North West season, 2020–21 Ardal South East season and 2020–21 Ardal South West season were all cancelled. The inaugural season was moved to 2021–22. The creation of the leagues mark the first time the Football Association of Wales owns and is administering tier 3 of the Welsh league system. The Welsh Football League (also known as the Nathaniel Car Sales Welsh Football League for sponsorship reasons) was a club football league in Wales. For its final season in 2019–20 season it operated at levels 3 and 4 of the Welsh football league system. West Wales Premier League
The West Wales Premier League (known for sponsorship reasons as ''The Macron West Wales Premier League'') is a football league in Wales, at tier 4 of the Welsh Football Pyramid in South West Wales under the control of the West Wales Football Association. The league consists of teams having their grounds and headquarters West of a line drawn from Briton Ferry, Neath, northwards to Glynneath, and then again northwards to the boundary line of the South Wales Football Association. It offers promotion opportunities to the Ardal Leagues, at tier 3 of the Football Association of Wales pyramid. West Wales FA Senior Cup
The West Wales FA Senior Cup was the regional knock-out competition for the higher ranked clubs beneath the umbrella of the West Wales Football Association until its end in 2009. It has been replaced with the WWFA Intermediate Cup, a tournament for clubs below Tier 3 in the Welsh football pyramid that play in West Wales. The cup was open to clubs competing in the Welsh Football League, the League of Wales / Welsh Premier League following its formation in 1992, and also Swansea City. In later years the Senior Cup winners of the county leagues – Carmarthenshire, Neath & District, Pembrokeshire and Swansea – would be invited to take part.
