Electoral District Of Eureka
The Electoral district of Eureka is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly in Australia. It was created in the redistribution of electoral boundaries in 2021, and came into effect at the 2022 Victorian state election. It largely covers the area of the abolished district of Buninyong, covering the east and southeast suburbs of Ballarat, including the suburbs of Eureka, Brown Hill, Ballarat East, Golden Point, Canadian, Mount Pleasant, Mount Clear, Mount Helen and Buninyong. It also covers large parts of the Golden Plains Shire and Moorabool Shire areas, including the towns of Ballan, Bacchus Marsh, Meredith, Lethbridge, Teesdale and Inverleigh. The abolished seat of Buninyong was held by Labor MP Michaela Settle, who recontested Eureka and retained the seat at the 2022 election. The Division of Ballarat (spelt Ballaarat from 1901 until the 1977 election) is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It was named for the provincial city of the same name by Scottish squatter Archibald Yuille, who established the first settlement − his sheep run called Ballaarat − in 1837, with the name derived from a local Wathawurrung word for the area, ''balla arat'', thought to mean "resting place". The division currently takes in the regional City of Ballarat and the smaller towns of Bacchus Marsh, Ballan, Blackwood, Buninyong, Clunes, Creswick, Daylesford, Myrniong and Trentham and part of Burrumbeet. The Division of Corangamite is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria. The division was proclaimed in 1900, and was one of the original 65 divisions to be contested at the first federal election. It is named for Lake Corangamite, although the lake no longer falls within the division's boundaries. The division was redrawn in 2021, becoming a much smaller seat due to increased population growth. It now covers (down from ) along the Victorian coast, including the growing surf coast area, the southern suburbs of Geelong as well as rural areas to the west. Meredith, Victoria
Meredith is a town in Victoria, Australia, located on the Midland Highway between Ballarat and Geelong, in the local government area of the City of Greater Geelong. At the , Meredith had a population of 788. History The town was surveyed in 1851–52. The naming of the town thought to be in honor of Captain Charles Meredith. Meredith Post Office opened on 1 November 1854 and the railway came to the town with the opening of the Geelong-Ballarat line in 1862, with the local railway station opened soon after. Now only grain and freight trains use the line. Darra, a house and stone cottage at 490 Slate Quarry Road, is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register. Governance The Meredith Road District (an early form of local government in Victoria) was established on 30 June 1863, and was redesignated as a shire on 28 April 1871. The Shire of Moorabool is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and, in June 2018, had a population of 34,158. The Golden Plains Shire is a local government area in Victoria, Australia, located in the western part of the state. It covers an area of and in June 2018, had a population of 23,120. It includes the towns of Bannockburn, Dereel, Gheringhap, Lethbridge, Linton, Berringa, Teesdale, Rokewood and Meredith. The Shire was formed on 6 May 1994 by the amalgamation of the Shire of Bannockburn (the part remaining after part of it was amalgamated with several other councils to form the new City of Greater Geelong in May 1993), Shire of Leigh, part of the Shire of Grenville and part of the Shire of Buninyong.
