Morgan Harper (lawyer)
Morgan Harper (born July 1, 1983) is an American attorney, community organizer, and political candidate. After working as a senior advisor at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, in 2020 she campaigned against incumbent Joyce Beatty to represent Ohio's 3rd congressional district, which includes Columbus, in the United States House of Representatives. Also in 2020, she founded the non-profit Columbus Stand Up. In 2022 she ran for the United States Senate to succeed Rob Portman. She lost in the Democratic Primary to congressman Tim Ryan 69-17%. Early life and education Born in Columbus, Ohio on July 1, 1983, Harper lived in a foster home for nine months before being adopted by a public school teacher. Timothy John Ryan (born July 16, 1973) is an American politician serving as a U.S. representative for Ohio since 2003. A member of the Democratic Party, he has represented since 2013 and previously represented until redistricting. Ryan's district now includes a large swath of northeastern Ohio, from Youngstown to Akron. He was the Democratic nominee in the 2022 United States Senate election in Ohio. Born in Niles, Ohio, Ryan worked as an aide to U.S. Representative Jim Traficant after studying political science at Bowling Green State University, and earned a J.D. degree from the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Sunrise Movement is an American 501(c)(4) political action organization that advocates political action on climate change. When launched in 2017, the movement's goal was to elect proponents of renewable energy in the 2018 midterm elections, first in the Democratic primaries and then in the general election held on November 6, 2018.
