Mor Athanasius Paulose II Metropolitan
Athanasius Paulose (27 June 1915 – 7 March 1991) was the First Metropolitan of Evangelistic Association of the East. He was consecrated as Metropolitan in 1973. Early life Paulose was born to Kunjannam and Kadavil Kurien Paulose (the son of Varkey, elder brother of Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius, the first metropolitan of Angamali diocese). His early education came in North Paravur. Paulose went to UC College Aluva followed by postgraduate studies in philosophy at Madras Christian College in 1941. He earned a degree in political science from Columbia University US in 1950 and a doctorate from Kerala University in 1966. In Sweden he received D. D. & D.Litt. degrees in 1974. He was well versed in Syriac. Career In 1938, Paulose was ordained by Mor Mor Yulios Elias Qoro, the delegate of the Apostolic See of Antioch to Malankara. Jacobite Syrian Christian Church
The Jacobite Syrian Christian Church (JSCC), or the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syrian Orthodox Church in India also known as Malankara Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church, the Jacobite Syrian Church, and the Syriac Orthodox Church in India, is a catholicate based in Kerala, India, of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch and part of the Oriental Orthodox Church. It recognizes the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All the East as supreme head of the church. It functions autonomously within the church, administered by the Metropolitan Trustee, under the authority of the Maphrian of India, Baselios Thomas I. Following schism with the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, is currently the only church in Malankara that is directly under a Syriac Christian Antiochian hierarchy, claiming continuity to the 1665 schism. Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius
Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius was the First Metropolitan of Angamaly Diocese of Malankara Church ordained for the diocese of Kottayam after its formation in 1876 as per the decision of the historic Mulanthuruthy Synod. From 1891 onwards he assumed the additional responsibility of Angamaly. It was during the time of Kadavil Thirumeni the construction of the St. Mary's Church at Thrikkunathu, Aluva was completed. One of the last wishes of the Metropolitan was to start a seminary at Aluva for teaching Syriac and English for clergy as well as for the laity. With this in mind he donated all his remaining properties and assets to the seminary, which he inherited from his family. On Saturday, 2 November 1907, Kadavil Paulose Mar Athanasius died at the age of 74. His mortal remains were interred in the northern side of the Madbho. Moran Mor Ignatius Jacob (Yaʿqub) III (October 12, 1913 – June 26, 1980) was the 121st Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and head of the Syriac Orthodox Church 1957-1980. He was skilled in and knowledgeable in Syriac sacral music or Beth Gazo. He re-established the Maphrianate/Catholicate in the Jacobite Syrian Orthodox Church (the Indian Church).
