The Moose Horn River is a U.S. Geological Survey. It is part of the St. Croix River watershed, flowing eventually to the Mississippi River. It rises at the outlet of Wild River Lake, southwest of the city of Cloquet, and flows southwest through Carlton County, roughly parallel to Interstate 35. The river passes the communities of Mahtowa, Barnum, and Moose Lake, ending at the Kettle River southwest of the city of Sturgeon Lake. Carlton County is a county in the State of Minnesota, formed in 1857. As of the 2020 census, the population was 36,207. Its county seat is Carlton. Part of the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation lies in northeastern Carlton County. Carlton County is part of the Duluth, MN- WI Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cloquet, Minnesota
Cloquet ( ) is a city in Carlton County, Minnesota, United States, at the junction of Interstate 35 and Minnesota State Highway 33. Part of the city lies within the Fond du Lac Indian Reservation and serves as one of the reservation's three administrative centers. The population was 12,568 at the 2020 census. History Cloquet began as a group of small settlements around three sawmills: Shaw Town, Nelson Town, and Johnson Town. These became known as Knife Falls after a local waterfall over sharp slate rocks, and later as Cloquet. The Ojibwe in the area called the area ''Mookomaan-onigamiing'', meaning "At the Knife Portage", as the portage to avoid Knife Falls connected the three communities.
