Moorooduc Highway
Moorooduc Highway is a 16 km highway which runs from Frankston to Tuerong and, together with the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, was part of the main route from Melbourne to the Mornington Peninsula until the completion of Peninsula Link in 2013. This name is not widely known to most drivers, as the entire allocation is still best known as by the names of its constituent parts: McMahons Road, Frankston–Flinders Road, and Moorooduc Road. This article will deal with the entire length of the corridor for sake of completion, as well to avoid confusion between declarations. Route McMahons Road (and the beginning of the highway) starts at the southern end of the Frankston Freeway and heads south as a six-lane, dual-carriageway road through the central suburbs of Frankston, crossing the Stony Point railway line until it intersects with and changes name to Frankston-Flinders Road. Frankston Freeway
Frankston Freeway is a short freeway in southern Melbourne initially designed as a bypass of central Frankston and later incorporated a freeway-style upgrade to Wells Road in the 1970s, now acting as a link from suburban Melbourne to Frankston's eastern suburbs. Frankston Freeway is now mostly used by local traffic (as through traffic now exit EastLink onto Peninsula Link and vice versa) as an express link in and out of Frankston, the largest city near the Mornington Peninsula, bypassing other congested arterial roads linking Frankston to the rest of suburban Melbourne. Peninsula Link
Peninsula Link (Frankston Bypass) is a freeway that completes the missing sections of the Mornington Peninsula Freeway, running from the EastLink interchange at Seaford, Melbourne, running along the eastern fringe of Frankston. It runs via Baxter and Moorooduc, almost parallel to the existing arterial Moorooduc Highway. The project is a Public Private Partnership (PPP) managed by the Linking Melbourne Authority (formerly SEITA) and delivered by private sector partner Southern Way, with the State Government providing quarterly payments for delivery under an availability model, with no charges to motorists. The contract with Southern Way to design, construct and finance the freeway was signed in January 2010, with a total project delivery cost for the two parties being $759 million. VicRoads
VicRoads is a government joint venture in the state of Victoria, Australia. In the state, it is responsible for driver licensing and vehicle registration. It is owned and operated through a joint venture between the Victorian government and a consortium made up of Aware Super, Australian Retirement Trust and Macquarie Asset Management. The Road Construction Authority was a government authority responsible for the construction and maintenance of main roads in the state of Victoria, Australia between 1983 and 1989. History The Road Construction Authority (RCB) was formed to take over responsibility from the Country Roads Board for the care and management of the 24,000 kilometres of main roads of the state. ''The Age'' observed that the Cain government's formation of the RCA was part of a "radical reorganisation" of the state's transport bureaucracy, reducing the long-standing autonomy of public sector bodies and bringing them closer to ministerial control. The Transport Act 1983 (the Act) was the main statute establishing government transport organisations and regulating land transport activities in the State of Victoria, Australia for 27 years from mid-1983 to mid-2010. Baxter, Victoria
Baxter is a township and rural locality beyond the Urban Growth Boundary in Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Baxter recorded a population of 2,166 at the 2021 census. It is served by Baxter railway station on the Stony Point greater-metropolitan line. Originally named Baxter's Flat, Baxter was founded by pastoralist Benjamin Baxter, who lived in a property named ''Carrup Carrup'' - the Aboriginal name. Moorooduc is a rural township on the Mornington Peninsula in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, south-east of Melbourne's central business district, located within the Shire of Mornington Peninsula local government area. Moorooduc recorded a population of 1,004 at the 2021 census. The Moorooduc Highway runs through the locality, being the main route between Melbourne and the Peninsula. Stony Point Railway Line
The Stony Point line is a greater-metropolitan railway line in Melbourne, Australia. The line extends from the Frankston line and is part of the city's suburban passenger railway network, and the Myki integrated ticketing system (Zone 2), but is not electrified like the rest of Melbourne's rail network. It has operated with a variety of rolling stock, and was the last suburban service in Australia to be operated by a locomotive hauled train.
