Monégasque Tennis Federation
The Monegasque Tennis Federation (french: Fédération Monégasque de Tennis, FMT) is the governing body for tennis in Monaco. It was founded in 1927 and is responsible for organizing, coordinating and promoting tennis in Monaco. The Federation organizes its own national championships and appoints the managers of the Monaco Davis Cup team. FMT is responsible for the organization of the Monte-Carlo Masters every year in April, as well as the Davis Cup matches. The FMT uses the same ranking system as the French Tennis Federation. History The Monegasque Lawn Tennis Federation was established on May 21, 1927. The first president was British Consul Major William G.Henley and vice-president Emile Riey. Its objective is to support and co-ordinate tennis clubs in the Principality and encourage relations with foreign federations and clubs. Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. Jean-René Lisnard
Jean-René Lisnard (born 25 September 1979) is a professional tennis player who represents Monaco, and formerly France. He has been a member of the Monaco Davis Cup team since 2007. He is to date, the only Monegasque tennis player to have won a match in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. Tennis career Lisnard plays right-handed, and turned professional in 1997. He reached his career-high singles ranking of World No. 84 in January 2003. His current doubles ranking is 400 with his highest rank being 171 on 10 September 2007. Bernard Balleret
Bernard Balleret (born 11 May 1954) is a French-born Monegasque professional tennis player. Balleret participated in the main draw of three French Opens during his career. He lost to American Fred McNair in the opening round of the 1976 French Open and also exited in the first round of the doubles, partnering Louis Borfiga. In 1979 he teamed up with Jacques Thamin and the pair made it to the second round, with a win over the French pairing of Bernard Fritz and Patrick Proisy. He played in the singles at the 1983 French Open but was again defeated in the opening round, this time by Christophe Roger-Vasselin. Alexandre-Athenase Noghès (15 June 1916 – 16 February 1999) was an international tennis champion, married Marinette Bastel, having one son Lionel (racing driver), best known as the first husband of Princess Antoinette of Monaco, whom he married as his second wife on 4 December 1951. Noghès' grandfather Alexandre was the founder of the Monaco Automobile Club and former general treasurer of Monaco's state finances. Vladimir Maximilianovich Landau ( rus, Владимир Максимилиа́нович Ланда́у, p=vlɐˈdʲimʲɪr məksʲɪmʲɪlʲɪˈanəvʲɪtɕ lɐnˈdaʊ; September 24, 1971) was a Russian-born Monegasque tennis player.
