Montserrat Cricket Team
The Montserrat cricket team has represented the British Overseas Territory of Montserrat in cricket. The team is not a member of the International Cricket Council, but the Montserrat Cricket Association is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association, which itself is a member association of the West Indies Cricket Board, and players from Montserrat generally represent the Leeward Islands cricket team at domestic level and the West Indies at international level. Montserrat has however played as a separate entity in matches which held Twenty20 status, but has not appeared in first-class or List A cricket. The team was previously coached by Abdiel Hughes, who was appointed in April 2012. Their former captain was McPherson Meade. Flag Of Montserrat
The flag of Montserrat consists of a Blue Ensign defaced with the British overseas territory's coat of arms. Adopted in 1960 to supplement the Union Jack after the dissolution of the British Leeward Islands the year before, it has been the flag of Montserrat since the territory was granted self-government that year. The design of the present flag entailed enlarging the coat of arms and outlining it with a white trim. Montserrat's flag is similar to the flags of eight other British Overseas Territories, which are also Blue Ensigns with their respective coats of arms. The captain of a cricket team, often referred to as the skipper, is the appointed leader, having several additional roles and responsibilities over and above those of the other players. Pyroclastic Flows
A pyroclastic flow (also known as a pyroclastic density current or a pyroclastic cloud) is a fast-moving current of hot gas and volcanic matter (collectively known as tephra) that flows along the ground away from a volcano at average speeds of but is capable of reaching speeds up to . Soufrière Hills
The Soufrière Hills are an active, complex stratovolcano with many lava domes forming its summit on the Caribbean island of Montserrat. After a long period of dormancy, the Soufrière Hills volcano became active in 1995 and has continued to erupt ever since. Its eruptions have rendered more than half of Montserrat uninhabitable, destroying the capital city, Plymouth, and causing widespread evacuations: about two-thirds of the population have left the island. Chances Peak in the Soufrière Hills was the highest summit on Montserrat until the mid-1990s, but it has since been eclipsed by various rising and falling volcanic domes during the recent volcanic activity. William Duberry
William Duberry (born 15 January 1944) is a former West Indian cricketer. Duberry's batting and bowling styles are unknown. He was born on Montserrat. Duberry made his first-class debut for the Leeward Islands against Barbados in the 1966/67 Shell Shield at Warner Park, St Kitts. This appearance, which came in February 1967, made him the first Montserratian to play first-class cricket (one month before Vendol Moore's first-class debut). He made two further first-class appearances for the Leeward Islands, against the Marylebone Cricket Club in 1968 at the Antigua Recreation Ground, St John's, and against the Windward Islands in 1973 at the Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown. The Nevis national cricket team represents the Caribbean island of Nevis. The team is organised by the Nevis Cricket Association (NCA) which is a member of the Leeward Islands Cricket Association (LICA), in turn an affiliate of Cricket West Indies. Plymouth, Montserrat
Plymouth is a ghost town and the ''de jure'' capital of the island of Montserrat, an British Overseas Territories, overseas territory of the United Kingdom located in the Leeward Island chain of the Lesser Antilles, West Indies. Constructed on historical lava deposits near the then long-inactive Soufrière Hills volcano, the town was evacuated in 1995 when the volcano resumed erupting. Sturge Park
Sturge Park was a cricket ground located on five acres of land adjacent to Plymouth, Montserrat. The ground, used by the Montserrat cricket team and infrequently by the Leeward Islands cricket team, was destroyed in the Soufrière Hills volcanic eruption of 1997. History Cricket was first recorded as being played on what would become Sturge Park in October 1925, when St Kitts played Antigua in the 1925/26 Hesketh Bell Shield. Montserrat first played there in the same competition against Dominica, before the ground held the final of the tournament between Montserrat and Antigua, with Montserrat winning. Test cricket is a form of first-class cricket played at international level between teams representing full member countries of the International Cricket Council (ICC).
