Montreal Protestant School Board
The Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal (PSBGM, french: Commission des écoles protestantes du Grand Montréal, CEPGM) was a Protestant and predominantly English-language school district in Montreal, Quebec, Canada which was founded in 1951 as a replacement for the Montreal Protestant Central Board, and ceased operations in 1998, with most of its assets transferred to the new English Montreal School Board. Quebec's Protestant school boards served all non-Catholics, so that the city's Jewish students generally attended schools operated by the PSBGM. The PSBGM's headquarters was located at 6000 Fielding Avenue in Montreal, which is now the headquarters for the English Montreal School Board. Aime Renaud High School
Aime Renaud High School was a Catholic public English and mixed Junior High School in the east end of Montreal. It was initially located in the then City of Saint-Leonard and then later in the Mercier-Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough in the City of Montreal. Its sports teams competed as the Vikings. The team colours were black and grey. History The school was opened by the Commission scolaire Jérôme-Le Royer for the 1972-73 school year in a rented building at the corner of Aimé-Renaud Street and Metropolitan Boulevard. The students attending were there for secondary II and III (Grades 8 and 9) although there were some secondary I (Grade 7) students some years. Riverdale High School (Quebec)
Riverdale High School (often abbreviated as RHS) was an English language secondary school, in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The school was part of the Lester B. Pearson School Board and was designated a "community school". History Riverdale had many athletic teams, including basketball, rugby, soccer, volleyball, track and field, and swim teams. The school also had a wide variety of community-based clubs and organizations. In 1971, the Riverdale Band won the International Band competition held in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. In 1972, an expansion of the original building took place. The logo visible to the right and the slogan "Reach Higher and Succeed" were adopted during the 1988-1989 school year after they were chosen in a schoolwide contest. Royal West Academy (commonly referred to as Royal West or RWA; french: Académie Royal West) is a public alternative English-speaking Quebecker, anglophone secondary school in Montreal West, Quebec. Royal West has limited enrollment, and prospective students are only admitted after an entrance examination and interview. Royal West Academy is part of the English Montreal School Board (EMSB). History The grounds where Royal West is now located once belong to the Aberdeen School of Coteau Saint-Pierre, founded in 1894. It was renamed Montreal West High School in 1921. Ten years later, in 1931, the building was demolished and a larger building was built in its place. Montreal West High School
Montreal West High School was a school located in Montreal West, Quebec, Canada. It operated from 1894 to 1983, when it was merged into Royal West Academy. History It originally opened as the Aberdeen School of Coteau Saint-Pierre, or Aberdeen School, in a two-story school erected in 1894 that housed 200 students on Easton Avenue in Montreal West. The school was often used for social functions, public meetings, and council meetings until the Montreal West Town Hall was built in 1910. In 1913, 500 Jewish students at Aberdeen School went on strike in response to a Grade 6 teacher's remark that the school's increasing "dirtiness" was related to its growing Jewish population. The teacher never sufficiently apologized and was not transferred to another school (the strikers' only demand), but the Protestant School Board made a point of hiring some Jewish teachers in the following school year.
