Montana Highway 77
Montana Highway 77 (MT 77), also known as Hot Springs Road, is an approximately state highway in the west of the US state of Montana, and it is a spur route to connect MT 28 to the city of Hot Springs. The entire route is within the Flathead Indian Reservation. Route description MT 77 begins at the intersection with MT 28, and proceeds due west until reaching the Hot Springs city limits, where Hot Springs Road becomes Broadway Avenue. History Hot Springs Road was created in order to link the community with MT 28, when it was rerouted to the east of the city circa 1939, as seen on the 1940 state map. The 1942 road log refers to it simply as the "Hot Springs Spur" under Federal Aid Primary Route 36 (the official state designation for MT 28, which is still used today). Hot Springs, Montana
Hot Springs ( Montana Salish: nayyákʷ, Kutenai: Kutmiʔk) is a town on the Flathead Indian Reservation in Sanders County, Montana, United States. The population was 557 at the 2020 census. Founded in 1910, it was incorporated in 1929. Previously it was known as both Camas and Camas Hot Springs for the camas plant that grows abundantly in the region. Geography Hot Springs is located at (47.608957, -114.672063). According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. It is located near several mineral hot springs, from which the town derives its name. Sanders County is a county in the U.S. state of Montana. As of the 2020 census, the population was 12,400. Its county seat is Thompson Falls. The county was founded in 1905. It has an annual county fair with rodeo at Plains. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (1.1%) is water. Sanders County lies on the state's western border; thus it shares the border with Idaho to the west. It is part of the Coeur d'Alene Mountains in the Bitterroot Range. The Clark Fork River flows southeast to northwest through the middle of the county, with the Bitterroot Mountains to the south and the Cabinet Mountains to the north. A spur route is a short road forming a branch from a longer, more important road such as a freeway, Interstate Highway, or motorway. A bypass or beltway should not be considered a true spur route as it typically reconnects with another or the same major road. Canada In the province of Ontario, most spur routes are designated as A or B, such as Highway 17A, or 7B. A stands for "Alternate Route", and usually links a highway to a town's central core or main attraction, while B stands for "Business Route" or "Bypass", but are used when a main highway is routed around a town and away from its former alignment. Montana Highway 28 (MT 28) is an approximately state highway in the west of the US state of Montana. It begins at MT 200 in Plains and ends at U.S. Highway 93 (US 93) in Elmo; all but the first are within the Flathead Indian Reservation. It serves as a key link in two alternate routes between Spokane, Washington, and Kalispell. Route description MT 28 begins at the eastern outskirts of Plains, at an intersection with MT 200. Initially, the highway winds northeasterly as it climbs through steep forest terrain before descending towards the plains again. Flathead Indian Reservation
The Flathead Indian Reservation, located in western Montana on the Flathead River, is home to the Bitterroot Salish, Kootenai, and Pend d'Oreilles tribes – also known as the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Nation. Montana Highway 38 (MT 38), also known as Skalkaho Road or Skalkaho Highway is a state highway in the US state of Montana approximately long. It provides seasonal direct land connections between the communities of Hamilton on the west and Philipsburg and Anaconda on the east via Skalkaho Pass.
