Montana Highway 38 (MT 38), also known as Skalkaho Road or Skalkaho Highway is a state highway in the US state of Montana approximately long. It provides seasonal direct land connections between the communities of Hamilton on the west and Philipsburg and Anaconda on the east via Skalkaho Pass. The highway and the pass take their name from the Salish word ''Sq̓x̣q̓x̣ó'', "many trails". Route description MT 38 begins south of Hamilton, at an intersection with U.S. Highway 93 (US 93). Initially, the highway heads south along a former section of US 93. The road takes an abrupt turn eastward as it passes through Grantsdale, begins its meandering climb southeast along Skalkaho Creek and northeast along Daly Creek through the Sapphire Mountains, turning southeast again before it crosses Skalkaho Pass. Montana State Highway 1 (MT 1) is a state highway in Deer Lodge and Granite counties in southwestern Montana, United States, extending west and north from the Anaconda I-90 Junction to Drummond. Both the beginning and endpoints of the road are on Interstate 90. It is known as the Pintler Scenic Loop and provides access to the community of Philipsburg and the communities near Georgetown Lake. MT 1 was one of the first roads to be paved in its entirety in Montana and has seen many changes over the years. The Philipsburg Valley and Georgetown Lake are found along this route as it winds its way through Mountain Landscapes, Open Meadows and Scenic Valleys in this part of southwestern Montana and gains significant elevation in certain places. Clinton is a census-designated place (CDP) in Missoula County, Montana, United States. It is part of the 'Missoula, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area'. The CDP was named for General Sir Henry Clinton. The population was 1,052 at the 2010 census, an increase from its population of 549 in 2000. Originally established in 1883 as a stage stop and post office, the town name was changed in 1892 to honor C. L. Clinton, an official of the Northern Pacific Railroad. Sapphire Mountains
The Sapphire Mountains are a range of mountains located in southwestern Montana in the northwestern United States. From a point near the Clark Fork River and the city of Missoula, they run in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately 60 miles (100 km), making up much of the border between Ravalli County (to the west) and Granite County. To the west is the Bitterroot Valley, and to the east is Rock Creek. The southern end of the range meets the larger Anaconda Range at West Pintler Peak. The northern segment of the range is part of the Lolo National Forest, while the south is part of the Deerlodge National Forest. The Salish or Séliš language , also known as Kalispel–Pend d'oreille, Kalispel–Spokane–Flathead, or Montana Salish to distinguish it from other Salishan languages, is a Salishan language spoken (as of 2005) by about 64 elders of the Flathead Nation in north central Montana and of the Kalispel Indian Reservation in northeastern Washington state, and by another 50 elders (as of 2000) of the Spokane Indian Reservation of Washington. As of 2012, Salish is "critically endangered" in Montana and Idaho according to UNESCO.
