''Monster Magnet'' is the debut EP by American rock band Monster Magnet, released via the German label Glitterhouse Records in 1990. The songs "Snake Dance" and "Nod Scene" would later be re-recorded for the group's debut full-length album '' Spine of God'', released in 1991. The song "Tractor" would be re-recorded and released several years later for the band's 1998 ''Powertrip'' album. Monster Magnet
Monster Magnet is an American rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded in 1989 by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (vocals and drums); they have since gone through several lineup changes, leaving Wyndorf as the only constant member. Monster Magnet has released ten studio albums to date, and they are best known for their 1990s hits "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" and "Space Lord". The band has also been credited for developing and popularizing the stoner rock genre, along with Masters of Reality, Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Sleep. Glitterhouse Records
Glitterhouse Records is a German independent record label and mail order company based in Beverungen, North Rhine-Westphalia. It was founded in the mid-1980s. From the late 1980s until the mid-1990s it was the European branch of the American label Sub Pop. Since 1997 the annual Orange Blossom Special Festival has been staged behind the Glitterhouse headquarters. Glitterhouse created the subsidiary Glitterbeat Records label (2013) and Stag-O-Lee Mailorder record shop. History The beginning The fanzine „The Glitterhouse", founded in 1981 by and , laid the foundation for the Glitterhouse Records label. The magazine covered mainly 60s garage and psychedelia, extensions of punk, weirdo folk, and similar genres. ''Spine of God'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Monster Magnet, released in Europe in 1991 and in the United States the following year. The album represents one of the earliest examples of the emerging 1990s sub-genre of stoner rock. Though ''Spine of God'' did not perform well commercially upon its initial release, the album was listed on '' Spin'' magazine's "Ten Best Albums of the Year You Didn't Hear" for 1991. ''Powertrip'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Monster Magnet, released on June 16, 1998. The album was the band's commercial breakthrough, achieving mainstream success due largely to the hit single, "Space Lord". Other hit songs on the album include "Powertrip", "Temple of Your Dreams", and "See You in Hell". The album itself, reached #1 on the Heatseekers Charts, #21 in the German Charts, #65 in the UK Charts, and #97 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on January 25, 1999. David Wyndorf (born October 28, 1956) is an American musician who is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for rock band Monster Magnet. He is the frontman and only remaining original member of the band. Career Commercial success In the early 1980s, Wyndorf fronted a punk band called Shrapnel, who recorded two 45 singles ("Combat Love" and "Go Cruisin'") and a five-song self-titled EP on Elektra Records. During most part of the 1990s, Wyndorf and Monster Magnet struggled for commercial success which they could not obtain because of their unfashionable retro-rock style. This changed in 1998, when Wyndorf took a 21-day trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, from which he drew inspiration to write the songs for ''Powertrip'', which would be Monster Magnet's breakthrough album. John McBain (musician)
John McBain (born April 23, 1965) is an American musician, producer, and mastering engineer from New Jersey. He was guitarist for Monster Magnet, Hater, and Wellwater Conspiracy, among others. He is also active as a solo artist and has contributed to The Desert Sessions. Career Hater After leaving Monster Magnet, McBain moved to Washington State to create the garage rock group Hater, along with Matt Cameron (Soundgarden, Pearl Jam), Ben Shepherd (Soundgarden) and Brian Wood (brother of Mother Love Bone vocalist Andrew Wood). The band released two albums of their brand of garage/psychedelic rock: their self-titled debut in 1993 and their follow-up, '' The 2nd'', which was recorded in 1995 but released in 2005.
