''Powertrip'' is the fourth studio album by American rock band Monster Magnet, released on June 16, 1998. The album was the band's commercial breakthrough, achieving mainstream success due largely to the hit single, "Space Lord". Other hit songs on the album include "Powertrip", "Temple of Your Dreams", and "See You in Hell". The album itself, reached #1 on the Heatseekers Charts, #21 in the German Charts, #65 in the UK Charts, and #97 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The album was certified gold by the RIAA on January 25, 1999. Monster Magnet
Monster Magnet is an American rock band. Hailing from Red Bank, New Jersey, the group was founded in 1989 by Dave Wyndorf (vocals and guitar), John McBain (guitar) and Tim Cronin (vocals and drums); they have since gone through several lineup changes, leaving Wyndorf as the only constant member. Monster Magnet has released ten studio albums to date, and they are best known for their 1990s hits "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" and "Space Lord". The band has also been credited for developing and popularizing the stoner rock genre, along with Masters of Reality, Kyuss, Fu Manchu and Sleep. Space Lord
"Space Lord" is a 1998 single by American rock band Monster Magnet from the album ''Powertrip''. The song is in the key of C minor. It brought them mainstream success, with its accompanying music video directed by Joseph Kahn. The song peaked at number three on the ''Billboard'' Mainstream Rock Songs chart, and number twenty-nine on the ''Billboard'' Alternative Songs chart. A remixed version of the song was also made, and was featured (along with the original) on their compilation album ''Greatest Hits''. The music video is notable for being the first video ever aired on MTV's ''Total Request Live'' on September 14, 1998. It appeared on the countdown five times climbing no higher than the No. 7 position. The line "Space lord, motherfucker" was truncated and an echo added to make the song more radio- and TV-friendly (the lyric is heard as "Space lord, mother, mother"), but the vocal rhythm is unchanged, and a band version with the original lyric has never been released. Dave Wyndorf
David Wyndorf (born October 28, 1956) is an American musician who is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and songwriter for rock band Monster Magnet. He is the frontman and only remaining original member of the band. Career Commercial success In the early 1980s, Wyndorf fronted a punk band called Shrapnel, who recorded two 45 singles ("Combat Love" and "Go Cruisin'") and a five-song self-titled EP on Elektra Records. During most part of the 1990s, Wyndorf and Monster Magnet struggled for commercial success which they could not obtain because of their unfashionable retro-rock style. This changed in 1998, when Wyndorf took a 21-day trip to Las Vegas, Nevada, from which he drew inspiration to write the songs for ''Powertrip'', which would be Monster Magnet's breakthrough album. Matt Hyde
Matt Hyde (born June 19, 1964) is an American producer, engineer, mixer and musician. From 1982 to 1985 he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. While still at Berklee in 1984, he obtained an internship at Pyramid Recording Studio in Boston. After two semesters at Berklee, Hyde took a break from classes to tour for the Department of Defense overseas entertainment program, playing guitar and keyboards in several top 40 cover bands that played shows at U.S. military bases in foreign countries throughout Europe and the Pacific. When he returned to the U.S., he began working at recording studios, first in Boston and from 1989 in Los Angeles. While working as a staff engineer at Paramount Recording Studios in Los Angeles, Hyde worked with Cypress Hill in preparation for their debut album. ''Dopes to Infinity'' is the third album by American rock band Monster Magnet. It was released on March 21, 1995. Overview The song "Negasonic Teenage Warhead" became the band's first hit single, after having appeared the previous year in different form in the American movie '' S.F.W.''. Other tracks, such as the title track and "Dead Christmas" however, received little or no airplay, resulting in sales of the album being only slightly better than their previous album, ''Superjudge''. The 2007 No Way Out was the ninth No Way Out professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). It was held exclusively for wrestlers from the promotion's SmackDown! brand division. The event took place on February 18, 2007, at Staples Center in Los Angeles, California.
