Monolithic Baby!
''Monolithic Baby!'' is the sixth studio album by American rock band Monster Magnet, released in 2004. It is a follow-up to 2000's '' God Says No''. It would also be the first album featuring bassist Jim Baglino. Bob Pantella was hired to fill the band's drum position after the album's recording; the drums on the album were performed by Michael Wildwood. The album features three cover songs – "There's No Way Out of Here" by Ken Baker. The song was originally recorded by Baker's English country rock band Unicorn released in 1976 on their album ''Too Many Crooks'' (US title ''Unicorn 2''). David Gilmour also recorded a version on his solo debut album. "The Right Stuff" by Robert Calvert is from his 1974 concept album, '' Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters'', and Velvet Underground's " Venus in Furs", the latter being available on the US edition of the album only. Monolithic (band)
Monolithic is a synthpop music project started and maintained by Michael Babbitt. Its music includes subgenres such as breakbeat, trance, EBM, techno, industrial, and downtempo. Monolithic's music has been described as "intense", "meaningful", "emotional", and "powerful." In January 2006, Babbitt announced that he was canceling his then-upcoming Monolithic album ''Evil Behind Smiling Eyes'' to focus on other projects. MIDIhead Michael (MIDIhead) Babbitt is sole member of Monolithic. He started his music career at the age of 14 when he went to a Battle of the DJs with a box of cassette tapes. He did poorly at his first performance, coming in last place, but he learned from the experience and later trained under more experienced DJs. Monolithic Dome
A monolithic dome (from Greek mono- and -lithic, meaning "one stone") is a thin-shell structure cast in a one-piece form. The form may be permanent or temporary and may or may not remain part of the finished structure. Monolithic domes are a form of monolithic architecture. History The igloo may be the earliest form of monolithic dome. While it is constructed of blocks of compressed snow, these blocks melt and re-freeze to form a strong, homogeneous structure. The dome-like shape of the igloo exhibits the two major advantages of a dome-shaped structure: great strength, and good insulation. The strength is due to the natural strength of the arch, and the insulation is due to the minimal surface area of a spherical section. Monolithic Architecture
Monolithic architecture describes buildings which are carved, cast or excavated from a single piece of material, historically from rock. The most basic form of monolithic architecture is a rock-cut building, such as the monolithic churches of Ethiopia built by the Zagwe dynasty, or the Pancha Rathas in India. These are cut out of solid rock, to which they remain attached at the base. In most cases this is evident from the remaining surrounding rock, but sometimes a building is cut from an outcrop, as in the Shore Temple in southern India, and only inspection at close quarters reveals that the building is monolithic. The terms ''monolith'' and '' monolithic column'' are normally used for objects made from a single large piece of rock which is detached from the ground. Monolithic Column
A monolithic column or single-piece column is a large column of which the shaft is made from a single piece of stone instead of in vertical sections. Smaller columns are very often made from single pieces of stone, but are less often described as monolithic, as the term is normally reserved for less common, larger columns made in this way. Choosing to use monolithic columns produces considerable extra difficulties in quarrying and transport, and may be seen as a statement of grandeur and importance in a building. ''Stone Sour'' is the debut studio album by American rock band Stone Sour. It was recorded and produced by the band and Tom Tatman at Catamount Studios in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and was released on August 27, 2002, through Roadrunner Records. Writing for the album began in 2000 while vocalist Corey Taylor and guitarist Jim Root were still actively involved in their other band, Slipknot.
