Monir Vakili
Monir Vakili ( fa, منیر وکیلی; December 19, 1924 – February 28, 1983) was an Iranian soprano. She was the first Persian singer to popularize Persian Folk Songs in Iran and the international music scene. Biography Monir was born to a family of art and music enthusiasts. Her father encouraged her interest in opera and supported her decision to study abroad. Monir studied voice and theater at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et De Danse de Paris and continued her training in opera directing at the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Mass. Monir started the first opera company in Iran. She gave performances in roles including ''Madama Butterfly'', Mimi in ''La Bohème'', Violetta in ''La Traviata'', and Liu in ''Turandot'', at the Rudaki Hall. She intended to bring the level of artistry in Iran up to international standards. Tabriz
Tabriz ( fa, تبریز ; ) is a city in northwestern Iran, serving as the capital of East Azerbaijan Province. It is the List of largest cities of Iran, sixth-most-populous city in Iran. Abdol Majid Majidi
Abdol Majid Majidi ( fa, عبدالمجید مجیدی, 1929–2014) was an Iranian politician who held several cabinet and public posts during the reign of Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He went into exile following the regime change in Iran in 1979 and settled in Paris. Early life and education Majidi was born in Tehran on 11 January 1929. His father was a lawyer, and Majidi was the second of his family's seven children. Majidi was a graduate of the University of Tehran where he received a law degree in 1950. He obtained his PhD in law from the University of Paris and also, attended economy program of the Harvard University's graduate school. Career Majidi was a member of the Rastakhiz Party. He held the following posts: deputy prime minister, minister of agricultural products and consumer affairs in the period between 1967 and 1968 and minister of labor and social affairs from 1968 to 1973. Shiraz Arts Festival
The Shiraz Festival of Arts (Persian language, Persian: جشنواره هنر شیراز) was an annual international summer arts festival, held in Iran bringing about the encounter between the East and the West. It was held from 1967 to 1977 in the city of Shiraz and Persepolis in central Iran by the initiative of Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi. History Accompanied by symposia and debates, the festival program included music, dance, drama and film, performed in a variety of locations in Shiraz and surrounding areas.
