Monica Vitti
Monica Vitti (born Maria Luisa Ceciarelli; 3 November 1931 – 2 February 2022) was an Italian actress who starred in several award-winning films directed by Michelangelo Antonioni during the 1960s. After working with Antonioni, Vitti changed focus and began making comedies, working with director Mario Monicelli on many other films. She appeared with Marcello Mastroianni, Alain Delon, Richard Harris, Terence Stamp, and Dirk Bogarde. On her death, Italian culture minister Dario Franceschini called her "the Queen of Italian cinema". Vitti won five David di Donatello Awards for Best Actress, seven Italian Golden Globes for Best Actress, the Career Golden Globe, and the Venice Film Festival Career Golden Lion Award. Edoardo Anton (7 January 1910 - 11 May 1986) was an Italian screenwriter and film director. Background Born in Rome as Edoardo Antonelli, Anton was the son of the playwright and journalist Luigi Antonelli. He entered the cinema industry in mid-thirties and soon became a prolific screenwriter specialized in comedy films. His work as filmmaker is marginal, mainly confined to the co-direction of a few international co-productions; the only work entirely attributable to him is '' Il lupo della frontiera''. Maria Luisa Mangini (2 February 1928 – 15 February 2011), better known as Dorian Gray, was an Italian actress. Biography Gray made her stage debut in 1950. After five years she left the world of the theater and devoted herself to cinema. The role she played most often in films was that of a seductive sex kitten. She played the titular "bad girl" in ''Totò, Peppino e la malafemmina''. She also appeared in Michelangelo Antonioni's ''Il grido''. In 1957, she took part in ''The Nights of Cabiria'' by Federico Fellini. Death On February 15, 2011, Gray committed suicide by gunshot at her home in Torcegno. Franco Fabrizi (; 15 February 1916 – 18 October 1995) was an Italian actor. Life and career Son of a barber and a cinema cashier, Franco Fabrizi started his career as a model and an actor in fotoromanzi. Fabrizi also starred on several revues and stage works, then he debuted on the big screen with a supporting role in '' Chronicle of a Love'' (''Cronaca di un amore'') (1950), Michelangelo Antonioni's long film debut. Mario Amendola
Mario Natalino Concetto Amendola (8 December 1910 – 22 December 1993) was an Italian screenwriter, film director and dramatist. Biography Amendola was born in Recco, which is located in Genova to parents from Rome. He began his career on stage in 1931 as a writer for avanspettacolo shows. During that time, he wrote dialogue for Erminio Macario, Totò and more. He ended this profession and moved to cinema in 1949. He wrote for 153 films between 1941 and 1987. He also directed 37 films between 1949 and 1975. Amendola collaborated with Bruno Corbucci on conceiving the Nico Giraldi film series starring Tomas Milian. Amendola died in 1993 from complications from diabetes. ''Big Deal on Madonna Street'' ( it, I soliti ignoti; released in the UK as ''Persons Unknown'') is a 1958 Italian comedy caper film directed by Mario Monicelli and considered to be among the masterpieces of Italian cinema. Its original Italian title literally translates as "the usual unknown ones", which is roughly equivalent to the English phrase "the usual suspects". The name of the Roman street in the English title is a slight mistranslation, as the Italian name of the fictional Roman street on which the midnight burglary in the film takes place is the ''Via delle Madonne'' (The Street of the Madonnas) rather than "Madonna Street". Compounding the confusion is the fact that the real Roman street on which the scene was filmed is the ''Via delle tre cannelle'' (The Street of the Three Spouts), rather than the ''Via delle tre Madonne'' (The Street of the Three Madonnas). Rossana Rory (born 7 September 1927) is an Italian retired actress best known for her performance as Norma in Mario Monicelli's caper film ''Big Deal on Madonna Street'' (1958). Career Rory began working as a model at the age of seventeen, posing mainly for the stylist Vincenzo Ferdinandi and in fotoromanzi in the weekly magazines ''Sogno'', ''Luna Park'', and ''Cine Illustrato''. In 1951, she made her film debut in Max Neufeld's '' Licenza premio''. Dissatisfied by a series of supporting roles, Rory went to London to attend acting courses at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, with hopes of a career in Hollywood.
