The Ground Force of Mongolia (, ''Mongol Ulsyn Zevsegt hüchniy Huurai zamyn tsereg'', ) is the land force of the Mongolian Armed Forces, formed from parts of the former Mongolian People's Army in 1992. It was known as the "Mongolian General Purpose Force" () until 2016. History At present Mongolia's armed forces have become more compact and professional since obligatory military service was replaced with the alternative between military and other service. The ground force, a core of the armed forces, are the main force to defend the country by military means. Butochiyn Tsog
Butochiyn Tsog ( Mongolian: Бутачийн Цог) was a Mongolian politician and military leader in the Mongolian People's Republic from the 1950s up until 1985. He is credited with building Mongolian military strength in the 60s and 70s. Biography He was born 25 May 1912 in Mongolia. At the age of 10, he was a student at Manjushri Monastery. From 1929, he worked as a raw material manager, head of a cooperative and head of a department in the State Cooperative and “Mongol Teeh”. In 1937, he graduated from the Sumy Artillery School in Ukraine. He headed the Artillery Division of the Mongolian military. Choibalsan (city)
Choibalsan ( Mongolian: ) is the fourth-largest city in Mongolia after Ulaanbaatar, Darkhan, and Erdenet. The name of the city was Bayan Tümen () until 1941, when it was renamed after the communist leader Khorloogiin Choibalsan in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Mongolian Revolution of 1921. It is the capital of the province of Dornod. The city administrative unit's official name is Kherlen sum, with area of . It is situated at the Kherlen River, at an elevation of above sea level. Dornod ( mn, Дорнод, ; "East") is the easternmost of the 21 aimags (provinces) of Mongolia. Its capital is Choibalsan. Colonel General Zhamyangiyn Lhagvasuren () was a Mongolian statesman and military leader in the Mongolian People's Republic. From 1939 to 1980, he was a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee and a candidate member, and then a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party. Dalanzadgad
Dalanzadgad ( mn, Даланзадгад; ) is the capital of Ömnögovi Aimag in Mongolia. It is located south of the national capital Ulaanbaatar. The altitude of the city center is 1,470 meters (4,823 feet). As of 2011, its population is 19,396. Transportation The Dalanzadgad Airport (ZMDZ/DLZ) is served by regular domestic flights from and to Ulaanbaatar. There are summer and winter timetables. In 2007 the Mongolian Civil Aviation Authority built a new airport with a paved runway. The runway is second longest in the country after Buyant-Ukhaa International Airport. Before that, the airport had only one gravel runway. The Dalanzadgad town has a paved road connecting it with capital Ulaanbaatar city. Batyn Dorj
General of the army Batyn Dorj (; 17 September 1914 — 23 July 1982) was a Mongolian statesman and military leader in the Mongolian People's Republic. He was one of the first 11 generals in Mongolia. Dorj is regarded as one of the most influential and consequential Mongolian government, military and social figures of the twentieth century. Biography He was born in Mongolia in the Barzan area on the territory of the Aldarkhaan, in what was then the Bogd Khanate. The early 30s, he worked as a firefighter and collective farmer. From 1935-1936, he studied at the cavalry school under the 1st Cavalry Division and in 1937, he joined the Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party. Ömnögovi Province
Ömnögovi ( mn, Өмнөговь ''Ömnögovǐ'', ''South Gobi'') is an aimag (province) of Mongolia, located in the south of the country, in the Gobi Desert. Ömnögovi is Mongolia's largest aimag. The capital is Dalanzadgad. The province is rich in mineral deposits, including gold and copper. Agriculture is of minor importance. Vegetables are grown in some oases, e.g. in Dal near Dalanzadgad. 150th Peacekeeping Battalion
The 150th Peacekeeping Battalion () is a military unit of the Armed Forces of Mongolia. It was the first unit that designated for peace-support operations. Operatively, it reports to the Peacekeeping Operations Office (PKOO) of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, being deployed in the city of Ulaanbaatar.
