Mon Alvin T. Abundo (born October 29, 1992) is a Filipino professional basketball player for Quezon Huskers of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL). He was Blackwater’s seventh round pick (51st overall) in the 2015 PBA draft, making him one of the lowest-drafted players ever to make it to the PBA. College career In 2011, Abundo transferred from Philippine Women's University to Centro Escolar University. In 2012, he was a part of the CEU Scorpions team that went to the NAASCU Finals, where they lost to the St. Clare College-Caloocan Saints. The following year, they joined the National Collegiate Basketball League (NCBL), and won the Founders' Cup tournament. It led up to their performance the following NAASCU season, in which they swept the elimination rounds to go straight to the finals. The point guard (PG), also called the one or the point, is one of the five Basketball positions, positions in a regulation basketball game. A point guard has perhaps the most specialized role of any position. Point guards are expected to run the team's offense by controlling the ball and making sure that it gets to the right player at the right time. 2023 MPBL Season
The 2023 MPBL season is the ongoing fifth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) and the second as a professional league. The regular season began on March 11, 2023 and will end on September 30, 2023. The playoffs are set to begin in October 2023. The league took two breaks during the regular season, during Holy Week and during the Philippines' co-hosting of the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This season features 29 teams, with five teams returning to the league alongside two expansion teams: the Negros Muscovados and the Quezon Huskers. The opening ceremonies took place at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena, Quezon. The 2023 MPBL All-Star Game will be held at Bataan People's Center in Balanga, Bataan. The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) is a professional basketball league in the Philippines. History The Pilipinas Super League (PSL) was founded in December 2021 by former officials of another league; the Pilipinas VisMin Super Cup. It was established by former VisMin Cup CEO Rocky Chan and former COO Chelito Caro. Chan assumed the post of PSL President and Caro as the league commissioner. Former professional basketballer Marc Pingris was appointed as commissioner in January 2022 succeeding Caro. The PSL aims to garner at least 10 teams for its inaugural season. The 2022 MPBL season, known as the MPBL Mumbaki Season, was the fourth season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. This season the MPBL announced their partnership with OKBet as their official betting partner. 2021 MPBL Invitational
The 2021 MPBL Invitational, officially known as the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitational powered by TM for sponsorship reasons, was an invitational tournament that serves as the prelude to the 2022–23 MPBL season. It commenced on December 11, 2021 and ended on December 23, 2021. The tournament was also the first for the MPBL since it was granted professional status by the Games and Amusements Board. The Invitational was also the first professional sports event in the Philippines to allow live audiences since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, with the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, the venue for the tournament, only allowed to be at 50 percent capacity. The 2018 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors' Cup, also known as the 2018 Honda Click–PBA Governor's Cup for sponsorship reasons, was the third and last conference of the 2017–18 PBA season. The 2017 PBA All-Star Week was the annual all-star week of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA)'s 2016–17 season which was on April 26 to 30, 2017 on three different venues covering Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. The all-star week kicked off in Cagayan de Oro (Mindanao) on April 26, then was held in Lucena (Luzon) together with the skills challenge on April 28, then capped off on April 30 in Cebu City. Ligang labas is a Tagalog language term for playing in a sports league (oftentimes basketball) other than where a player's team is primarily playing. Translated as "outside league" (or, "league that's not ours"), ligang labas is also a description used by former Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) players on the leagues that they've played at after leaving the PBA.
