Molus River (New Brunswick)
''for the community named Molus River, see Molus River'' Molus River is a fresh water tributary of the Richibucto River, located in Weldford Parish, New Brunswick, Canada. At one time named Moulies River Station, it is located 3.15 km North East of Bass River, New Brunswick on the road to Richibucto. In 1904 Moulies River Station was a stop on the Kent Northern Railway. The first European settlers of the south side of the Molus River were 1821 Thomas Phelan ( Whalen), John Phelan, Patrick Phelan. By the 1830s the north side was also opened and the Warman family settled here. Other settler names: Olsen, Dargavel, Stevenson, Millar, McPherson, Ward, and Harnett. The community reached its height in the late 19th century. By 1900 the community was in decline, the virgin forest of white pine and maple had been stripped from the land to supply the shipbuilding community down river at Kingston now Five Rivers. Molus River is a settlement in Weldford Parish, New Brunswick on Route 116 on the Molus River. History Molus River had a post office named Moulies River 1867–1950 and named Molus River 1950–1970. In 1871, Molus River had a population of 150. In 1898, Molus River was a farming, fishing and lumbering settlement with 1 post office, 1 church and a population of 300. Epsikitiáskuk is what the Mi’kmaq people of Elsipogtog First Nation called the Molus River as seen on old land grant documents at Provincial Archives New Brunswick. A possible source for the word Molus is from the French language spoken by Acadian living in the Richibucto River area, with the word "moluёs" being a French word for a tidal flat mussel, a type of shellfish commonly found on muddy beaches along the river. Elsipogtog First Nation
The Elsipogtog First Nation , formerly called the Big Cove Band, is a Miꞌkmaq First Nations band government in New Brunswick, Canada. The First Nation's territory comprises Richibucto Reserve #15, lying southwest of Rexton, New Brunswick on the Richibucto River off of Route 116. It also comprises Soegao Reserve #35, lying west of Moncton, New Brunswick. , the registered Elsipogtog population is 3,313, with 2,587 living on reservations and 726 living off reservations. History "Elsipogtog" or "L'sipuktuk" means "River of Fire". The area was also called the stronghold of Sikniktuk. The traditional district was assigned to the Mi'kmaq clan of Alguimou, or L'kimu. Misel Alguimou was baptised Michael Augustine in the 18th century. Chief Michael Augustine signed the Peace and Friendship Treaty with the British in 1761, on behalf of the Richibucto Tribe of Mi'kmaq. Five Rivers, New Brunswick
Five Rivers is a village in the Canadian province of New Brunswick. It was formed through the 2023 New Brunswick local governance reforms. It encompasses the former village of Rexton. History Five Rivers was incorporated on January 1, 2023. Notable people Five Rivers (Kingston at the time) was the birthplace of Bonar Law, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom in 1922–1923. Until the election of Boris Johnson in 2019, who was born in New York City, Law was the only British Prime Minister to be born outside the British Isles.
