The Passage Of Winter
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things already mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with pronouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of pronoun ''thee'') when followed by a ...

L'Imposture
''The Impostor'' () is a 1927 novel by the French writer Georges Bernanos. It tells the story of a priest who loses his faith and sets out to rediscover his soul together with an elderly cleric. Reception ''Publishers Weekly'' wrote in 1999: "Austere, intellectually challenging and, occasionally, achingly poignant in the tradition of French-Catholic mysticism, the novel achieves a certain quiet spiritual triumph, a faith-at-low-ebb form made popular in the English-speaking world by ''The Power and the Glory ''The Power and the Glory'' is a 1940 novel by British author Graham Greene. The title is an allusion to the doxology often recited at the end of the Lord's Prayer: "For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, forever and ever, amen." ...''." '' Kirkus Reviews'' called the book "An often maddeningly discursive work that, nevertheless, accumulates great power in a devastating portrayal of a tormented soul that itself becomes a tormentor." Home (Mirbeau)
''Home'', also translated as ''Charity'' (french: Le Foyer), is a French three-act comedy by the novelist and playwright Octave Mirbeau, written in collaboration with Thadée Natanson. It was performed in December 1908 on the stage of the Comédie-Française, in Paris. The comedy raised a big scandal because in it Mirbeau denounces the Catholic charity-business and broaches a new taboo subject : the economic and sexual exploitation of young girls in "charitable" homes. In order to see his play performed as intended, he brought a suit against Jules Claretie and the Comédie-Française. He won his trial and the comedy could at last be performed. An English translation, by Richard Hand, has been published by Intellect Books : ''Two Plays: "Business is Business" and "Charity"'', January 2012, 147 pages (). Plot Like '' Business is business'', ''Le Foyer'' is a comedy of manners and characters in the tradition of Molière Jean-Baptiste Poquelin (, ; 15 January 1622 (baptised ...

A Month In The Country (play)
''A Month in the Country'' (russian: Месяц в деревне, translit=Mesiats v derevne, links=no) is a play in five acts by Ivan Turgenev, his only well-known work for the theatre. Originally titled ''The Student'', it was written in France between 1848 and 1850 and first published in 1855 as ''Two Women''. The play was not staged until 1872, when it was given as ''A Month in the Country'' at a benefit performance for the Moscow actress Ekaterina Vasilyeva (1829–1877), who was keen to play the leading role of Natalya Petrovna.Proscenium Publications programme note for the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre, Guildford revival (1994) Background Originally entitled ''The Student'', the play was banned by the Saint Petersburg censor without being performed. Turgenev changed the title to ''Two Women''. In 1854 it was passed for publication, provided alterations were made — demands made more on moral than political grounds. To play down the controversy, Turgenev finally settled on the na ...
