Molfar
A molfar ( uk, мольфа́р) is a person with purported magical abilities in Hutsul culture. Their abilities focus around herbalism and other folk magic. The origin of the word is uncertain. It may originate from Romance languages, e.g., Italian '' malfare'' 'to do evil'. Molfar culture was popularised by Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky's book ''Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors'', published in 1911, and a subsequent film made in 1964. Mykhailo Nechay
Mykhailo Mykhailovych Nechay ( uk, Миха́йло Миха́йлович Неча́й; 24 February 1930 – 15 July 2011) was a Ukrainian Hutsul molfar during the late 20th century and early 21st century. Commonly referred to as "the last molfar", Nechay has become known for his prophecies on Ukraine, predicting the fall of Viktor Yanukovych and the Russo-Ukrainian War. Early life Mykhailo Mykhailovych Nechay was born into a working-class family in the village of on 24 February 1930. He graduated from the regimental school in Uman. He served two years in the Soviet army in Armenia and Georgia. He lived in Verkhniy Yaseniv, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast. According to Nechay, he was a descendant of Danylo Nechai, a Ukrainian commander during the Khmelnytsky Uprising. According to him, he discovered that he had the miraculous power to stop bleeding at the age of eight. Hutsuls
The Hutsuls (sometimes the spelling variant: Gutsuls; uk, Гуцули, translit=Hutsuly; pl, Huculi, Hucułowie; ro, huțuli) are an ethnic group spanning parts of western Ukraine and Romania (i.e. parts of Bukovina and Maramureș). They have often been officially and administratively designated as a subgroup of Ukrainians and are largely regarded as constituting a broader Ukrainian ethnic group. Mykhailo Mykhailovych Kotsiubynsky ( uk, Михайло Михайлович Коцюбинський), (September 17, 1864 – April 25, 1913) was a Ukrainian author whose writings described typical Ukrainian life at the start of the 20th century. Kotsiubynsky's early stories were described as examples of ethnographic realism; in the years to come, with his style of writing becoming more and more sophisticated, he evolved into one of the most talented Ukrainian impressionist and modernist writers. The popularity of his novels later led to some of them being made into Soviet movies.
