Mohammed Dilawar
Mohammed Dilawar is the Founder and President of Nature forever society which was formally registered in 2009. He has been working for over thirteen years in the conservation field. Biography Starting out as a volunteer at the grassroot level conducting surveys and creating awareness about conservation, he completed his Masters in Ecology and worked as a Lecturer and Head of the Department at a RYK College of Science Nashik for a year before joining the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) project in 2006. He worked with RSPB until 2010. The project was about "Safeguarding Key IBA sites of India". He headed the Project "Decline of House Sparrows in the Urban Sub-Habitats of India" and worked on the report submitted to the MoEF on "Impacts of Cell Phone Towers on Wildlife and Bees". Nature Forever Society
The Nature Forever Society (NFS) is a non-profit, non-governmental organization working for the conservation of house sparrows and other common flora and fauna since 2006. Started by Mohammed Dilawar (founder and president), Nature Forever Society was registered in 2008. The mission of the Nature Forever Society is to involve citizens in the conservation movement in India. To achieve this Nature Forever Society has been working by launching initiatives that are simple and have far-reaching conservation value. Dilawar said: "For me, if we can't save a sparrow which is found around us then it is too ambitious to save a tiger. So first we have to save the sparrows and only then can we dream of saving the tiger." Nashik (, Marathi: aːʃik, also called as Nasik ) is a city in the northern region of the Indian state of Maharashtra. Royal Society For The Protection Of Birds
The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is a charitable organisation registered in England and Wales and in Scotland. It was founded in 1889. It works to promote conservation and protection of birds and the wider environment through public awareness campaigns, petitions and through the operation of nature reserves throughout the United Kingdom. In 2020/21 the RSPB had an income of £117 million, 2,000 employees, 12,000 volunteers and 1.1 million members (including 195,000 youth members), making it one of the world's largest wildlife conservation organisations. World Sparrow Day
World Sparrow Day is a day designated to raise awareness of the house sparrow and then other common birds to urban environments, and of threats to their populations, observed on 20 March. It is an international initiative by the Nature Forever Society of India in collaboration with the Eco-Sys Action Foundation (France) and numerous other national and international organisations across the world. The Nature Forever Society was started by Mohammed Dilawar, an Indian conservationist who started his work helping the house sparrow in Nashik, and who was named one of the "Heroes of the Environment" for 2008 by ''Time (magazine), Time'' for his efforts. Common Bird Monitoring Of India
The Common Bird Monitoring Program is a citizen science bird monitoring program of India. It is a pioneer project that aims to engage general public in the collection of baseline data on 18 common bird species. Data collected will be used to map species abundance and distribution throughout the Indian subcontinent. The program is an initiative of the Nature Forever Society, supported by the Jaypee Group. It was launched in the city of Mumbai on World Sparrow Day, 20 March 2012. Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Mumbai, launched its Common Bird Monitoring Program in 2015. BNHS follows a scientific methodology and recommends following the Line Transect Method. In this method the participant walks along a predetermined route at a fixed pace and records the birds on or near the line. The observations are recorded in a standard data sheet provided by BNHS.
