Mohammad Bagheri (Iranian Commander)
Mohammad Bagheri ( fa, محمد باقری, born Mohammad-Hossein Afshordi ( fa, محمدحسین افشردی) is an Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps military commander serving at the most senior military position available in Iran, Chief of Staff for the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. He holds the rank of Major General within the Iranian military. Career Also, a military intelligence expert with his experience dating back to the Iran–Iraq War, he holds a Ph.D. in political geography and reportedly teaches at Iran's Supreme National Defense University. In 1980, he joined the IRGC. Sardar ( fa, سردار), roughly equivalent to "General", is the honorific title used for officers of high rank, ranking Second Brigadier General and higher in the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and commanders of the Law Enforcement Force of Islamic Republic of Iran (Police) who have previously served in the former military or the Islamic Revolution Committees, as well as the commanders of the disbanded Jihad of Construction. Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari ( fa, محمدعلی جعفری, born 1 September 1957, also known as Aziz Jafari and Ali Jafari) is a former commander-in-chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps from 2007 to 2019. He was appointed by Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei on 1 September 2007, succeeding Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi. He served as the Chief-of-Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces—the most senior military authority in Iran—from 1989 to 2016.
