Rangpur-3 is a constituency represented in the Jatiya Sangsad (National Parliament) of Bangladesh. Saad Ershad is the current MP of this constituency. Boundaries The constituency encompasses Rangpur Sadar Upazila and wards 9 through 33 of Rangpur City Corporation. History The constituency was created for the first general elections in newly independent Bangladesh, held in 1973. Ahead of the 2014 general election, the Election Commission reduced the boundaries of the constituency. Previously it had also included eight union parishads of Rangpur Sadar Upazila: Chandanpat, Darshana, Mominpur, Rjendrapur, Sadya Pushkarni, Satgara, Tamphat, and Tapodhan. Jatiya Party (Ershad)
The Jatiya Party ( bn, জাতীয় পার্টি, translit=Jatiyo Party, lit=National Party) is a conservative, nationalist political party in Bangladesh and is currently the main opposition in the Jatiya Sangsad, against the Awami League. The current chairman of the party is Ghulam Muhammad Quader. On 3 January 2019, the party announced its decision to join the Bangladesh Awami League-led Grand Alliance after having been in opposition for the previous parliamentary term. However, the party backtracked the next day and announced that it intended to remain part of the opposition. Currently, it holds Rangpur out of Bangladesh's 12 city corporations. Rangpur ( bn, রংপুর) is a district in Northern Bangladesh. It is a part of the Rangpur Division. Geography Under the Rangpur Division (one of eight divisions) composed of eight districts of northern Bangladesh, the District of Rangpur is bordered on the north by Nilphamari District, on the south by Gaibandha District, on the east by Kurigram, and on the west by Dinajpur district. Lt. Gen. Hussain Muhammad Ershad ( bn, হুসেইন মুহাম্মদ এরশাদ; 1 February 1930 – 14 July 2019) was a Bangladeshi Army Chief politician who served as the President of Bangladesh from 1983 to 1990, a time many consider to have been a military dictatorship. He seized power as head of the army during a bloodless coup against President Abdus Sattar on 24 March 1982 (by imposing martial law and suspending the Constitution). He declared himself President in 1983, and subsequently won the controversial 1986 Bangladeshi presidential election. Despite claims to have legitimately won the 1986 election, many consider his regime as an era of military dictatorship. Shafiqul Ghani Swapan
Shawfikul Ghaani Swapan was a Bangladeshi politician and the former chairman of Bangladesh National Awami Party-Bangladesh NAP. During his political career, he served as a Member of Parliament twice, and held cabinet positions in both the Zia and Ershad Governments.
