Moe Hein (journalist)
Moe Hein ( my, မိုးဟိန်း) is a Burmese journalist and former student activist. He is the founder and editor-in-chief of the '' Thuriya Naywun Journal''. A prominent student leader in the 8888 movement, Moe Hein has been accused of betraying his activist roots. Career After the Burmese army seized power in September 1988, Moe Hein, then a Rangoon University student, along with other student leaders Min Ko Naing and Moethee Zun, helped to organize what became known as the 8888 nationwide student uprising in 1988. He served as the secretary of the Democratic Party for a New Society, and was subsequently imprisoned by the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), the military junta. Than Shwe
Than Shwe ( my, သန်းရွှေ, ; born 2 February 1933 or 3 May 1935) is a Burmese strongman politician who was the head of state of Myanmar from 1992 to 2011 as Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC). During this period, he held key positions of power including Prime Minister of Myanmar, Commander-in-chief of Myanmar Defense Services and head of the Union Solidarity and Development Association. In March 2011 he officially stepped down as head of state in favour of his hand-picked successor, Thein Sein, and as head of the Armed Forces, being replaced by general Min Aung Hlaing. Myawaddy TV ( my, မြဝတီ ရုပ်မြင်သံကြား, abbreviated MWD) is a Myanmar military-owned propaganda network based in Yangon and Naypyidaw, Myanmar. History Myawaddy TV was launched on the 27 March 1995, in commemoration of the Myanmar's Armed Forces Day. Its programming is also broadcast over the AsiaSat 2 satellite. It was used in 2021 to formally announce the military takeover of Myanmar. In response to the coup, Facebook removed the page of the military-owned Myawaddy TV Network, for violating Facebook policy that prohibits organizations that promote hate speech or violence. The State Administration Council ( my, နိုင်ငံတော်စီမံအုပ်ချုပ်ရေးကောင်စီ; abbreviated SAC or နစက) is the military junta currently governing Myanmar, established by Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Min Aung Hlaing following the February 2021 coup d'état. 2021 Myanmar Coup D'état
A coup d'état in Myanmar began on the morning of 1 February 2021, when democratically elected members of the country's ruling party, the National League for Democracy (NLD), were deposed by the Tatmadaw—Myanmar's military—which then vested power in a military junta. Acting president Myint Swe proclaimed a year-long state of emergency and declared power had been transferred to Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Min Aung Hlaing. It declared the results of the November 2020 general election invalid and stated its intent to hold a new election at the end of the state of emergency.
