Moe Football Club
The Moe Football Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Lions'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based at Ted Summerton Reserve in the town of Moe, Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Gippsland Football League. Club history There was a meeting at Semmen's Moe Hotel in April, 1889 to form a local football club, with Mr. A A McPhee elected as President, R J Martin - Secretary and C W J Coleman as Treasurer. Mr. C W J Coleman was elected as club captain as Mr. J Watson was appointed as vice captain for 1889. Moe played in the Miller Cup in 1889 and the Kennedy Cup competition in 1890. Moe Football Club was re-established in 1900, at a meeting Leith's Club Hotel, with Captain Leith elected as President. Captain Leith was President in 1901 too and played in the West Gippsland Football Association in 1901. In 1908, Moe wore the colours of red, white and blue. The Gippsland League (formerly known as the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League) is an Australian rules football and netball league in the Gippsland region of Victoria, Australia. It is considered the only AFL Victoria major league in Gippsland. John Somerville (Australian Footballer)
John Somerville (8 December 1939 – 12 November 1984) was an Australian rules footballer who played 106 senior games for the Essendon Football Club from 1960 to 1967. Career Recruited from Moe Football Club, he played his first match for the Essendon senior team in Round 5 of the 1960 season, against Carlton, at Essendon's home ground, Windy Hill. He played on the half-forward flank, kicking 96 goals in his 106 game career. He played in the 1962 Essendon premiership team that beat Carlton 13.12 (90) to 8.10 (58). 1965 Preliminary Final Within the first 10 minutes of the 1965 Preliminary Final between Essendon and Collingwood Somerville was knocked unconscious by his opponent, the Collingwood half-back flanker Duncan Wright. The Gippsland Football League (GFL) is an Australian rules football competition played in Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. History The Gippsland Football League was formed when the Northern Gippsland Football Association (NGFA) officially changed their name to "The Gippsland Football League" in 1921. The R. Frank Jensen Trophy, was initially awarded to the best and fairest player in the Gippsland Football League in 1927 and was named after the donor. Then T. Victor Trood donated the award from 1928 onwards. Bernard Vince (born 2 October 1985) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the Adelaide Football Club, Adelaide and Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). He has since become involved in the football media, working for Triple M and Fox Footy. At the time of his retirement, Vince was only one of seven players in VFL/AFL history to have played 100 or more games at two clubs and win the best and fairest award at both clubs. Jervis Stokes
Jervis Arthur Stokes (21 September 1927 – 30 April 2016) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Richmond in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Early career Stokes, a centreman and half forward, played originally for Burnie. He represented Tasmania at the 1947 Hobart Carnival. Richmond In 1948, Stokes joined the Richmond Football Club, where his brother Ray played. It was his injured brother's spot that Jervis took to make his league debut in round seven, against Hawthorn. He made a total of 11 appearances that year, then eight in the 1949 VFL season, followed by 14 in 1950. Post VFL career Stokes went to Moorabbin as captain-coach in 1951, for the club's inaugural season in the Victorian Football Association (VFA). Declan Keilty (born 8 May 1995) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Melbourne Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Sam Skinner (born 29 June 1997) is a former professional Australian rules footballer who played for the Brisbane Lions and Port Adelaide Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Troy Makepeace
Troy Makepeace (born 6 March 1979) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the North Melbourne Kangaroos in the Australian Football League. Drafted by the Kangaroos in the 6th round of the 1999 AFL Draft, Makepeace made his AFL debut in 2000 and was a key player in their back line for many years. In 2005, he represented Australia in the International Rules Series. The following season, Makepeace found his playing time limited, playing just 12 games. At the end of the year, he was delisted by the Kangaroos. Not picked up by an AFL club, Makepeace played for the VFL's Casey Scorpions in 2007.
