Modern Pentathlon At The 2020 Summer Olympics
The modern pentathlon at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo took place in 2021 at Musashino Forest Sport Plaza and Ajinomoto Stadium. Thirty-six athletes competed each in the men's and women's events. Format Modern pentathlon contains five events; pistol shooting, épée fencing, freestyle swimming, show jumping, and a cross-country run. The first three events (fencing, swimming, and show jumping) were scored on a points system. Those points were then converted into a time handicap for the final combined event (pistol shooting and cross-country running), with the points leader starting first and each other competitor having a delayed start based on how many points behind the leader they were. This results in the finish order of the run being the final ranking for the event. The Musashino Forest Sport Plaza is a multi-sport venue located in Chōfu, Tokyo, Japan. The main arena has a seating capacity of over 10,000, and also includes a swimming pool, a gym, a multi-use sports area and two fitness studios, that is available for use by the general public. Sarolta Kovács (born 12 March 1991) is a Hungarian modern pentathlete. An individual and team World Champion, she competed in the modern pentathlon at the 2012, 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. Career In 2016, she was the surprise winner of the UIPM World Championships, as she missed much of the competitive season due to injury. The championships were held in Moscow, where previously she had won World Championship silver in 2011. Laura Asadauskaitė
Laura Asadauskaitė-Zadneprovskienė (born 28 February 1984 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian modern pentathlete. She won the gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and achieved an Olympic record score. Asadauskaitė also competed in three other Olympics, 2008 in Beijing, 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, and in 2021 in Tokyo Olympics in which she was awarded with the silver medal. Katherine Elizabeth French (born 11 February 1991) is a British modern pentathlete who won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan. Personal life French was born on 11 February 1991 in Meopham, near Gravesend, Kent. She was privately educated at the independent Cobham Hall School. She completed a degree in sports performance at the University of Bath, where she also trains at the Pentathlon GB High Performance Centre. French is married and lives in Chapmanslade, Wiltshire. Jun Woong-tae
Jun Woong-tae (, born 1 August 1995) is a South Korean modern pentathlete. Sports career The athlete from Seoul was the first Korean player to win a ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after a series of victories, including  winning the UIPM World Cup in 2018, winning a gold medal at the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang in the same year, and a bronze medal in the individual event at the World Championships in 2019. Ahmed El-Gendy (born 1 March 2000) is an Egyptian modern pentathlete. He won the silver medal in the men's event at the 2020 Summer Olympics. He won the gold medal in the event at the 2020 Summer Olympics and the 2022 World Modern Pentathlon Championships, World title in 2022.
