Modern Lullaby
''Modern Lullaby'' is an album by the Canadian band Martha and the Muffins, released in 1992. Although released under the band's original name, only Martha Johnson and Mark Gane remained following the original band's breakup. No singles were released from the album, though the track "Rainbow Sign" was promoted to radio, and videos were produced for "Rainbow Sign", "Everybody Has A Place" and "Fighting the Monster". Martha And The Muffins
Martha and the Muffins are a Canadian rock band, active from 1977 to the present. Although they only had one major international hit single "Echo Beach" under their original band name, they had a number of hits in their native Canada, and the core members of the band also charted in Canada and internationally as M + M. Career Formation and early years (19771978) The group's initial line-up came together in Toronto in 1977, when David Millar asked his fellow Ontario College of Art student Mark Gane to help him start a band. Millar recruited Martha Johnson to play keyboards; Johnson brought in a friend from high school, Carl Finkle, to play bass; and Gane's brother Tim signed on as the drummer. With Millar and Mark Gane as guitarists, and Johnson as lead vocalist, this is the line up that debuted at an Ontario College of Art Hallowe'en party in October 1977. Intrepid Records was a Canadian independent record label founded in Toronto, Ontario. People associated with the label included founder Stuart Ravenhill and A&R rep Graham Stairs. Artists who recorded for Intrepid included National Velvet, Rheostatics, Meryn Cadell, The Bookroom, Martha and the Muffins, Rail T.E.C., Squiddly, Stranger Than Fiction, Cottage Industry, and KCC & Dance Speak. Far Away In Time
''Far Away in Time'' was a 1987 CD compilation of tracks by Martha and the Muffins. The compilation consisted of ''Metro Music'' (the band's first album) in its entirety (tracks 1-10), plus four tracks from ''Trance and Dance'' (tracks 12-15), two tracks from ''This is the Ice Age'' (tracks 16-17), and the non-album single "Insect Love" (track 11). The album was compiled without any input from the band, and the poorly researched liner notes by Mick Wall (on the 1993 re-issue) contain numerous errors about the history of the band's various line-ups, as well as several errors about the origins of the tracks on this compilation. Martha Johnson (born December 18, 1950) is a Canadian rock singer, keyboardist, and songwriter. She is best known as the vocalist of the 1980s rock band Martha and the Muffins. Early life Johnson was born on December 18, 1950, in Toronto, Ontario. Career Johnson worked in Toronto as a medical receptionist. She started her career playing the organ with cover band "Oh Those Pants". She then was part of Toronto band the Doncasters in the early 1970s. Johnson joined David Millar, Mark and Tim Gane, and Carl Finkle to form the band Martha and the Muffins in 1977. The band, later known as M + M, released an international hit single with "Echo Beach", with Johnson as lead singer. In 1985, she and her husband and bandmate Mark Gane were presented with a CASBY award for their production work with the group.
