The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT, ) is a state government organization in charge of maintaining public roadways of the U.S. state of Missouri under the guidance of the Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission. Windsor is a city in Henry and Pettis counties, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,901 at the 2010 census. History Windsor was laid out in 1855, and originally known as Belmont. Its name was changed to Windsor in 1859, after Windsor Castle, in England. A post office called Windsor has been in operation since 1850. Geography The city is located in northeast Henry County and extends to the northeast into the southwest corner of Pettis County. It is at the intersection of Missouri routes 52 and 2. Clinton is 16 miles to the southwest, Warrensburg is about 18 miles to the northwest and Sedalia is approximately 18 miles to the northeast. Knob Noster, Missouri
Knob Noster is a city in Johnson County, Missouri, United States. The population was 2,709 at the 2010 census. It is located adjacent to and closely associated with Whiteman Air Force Base. Knob Noster State Park is nearby. History Knob Noster was platted in 1856. The community, in the eastern part of Washington Township, was laid out in 1856 by William A. Wortham, and incorporated by act of legislature December 14, 1859. All authorities agree that the name is connected with the prominent mound or knob (or knobs) that stand isolated on the prairie near the town. The second part of the name is said to have been suggested by a school teacher, but its origin is uncertain. Eaton derives it from the Latin, interpreting the whole name as a barbarous mixture signifying "Our Knobs," an etymology which seems unlikely. Further light on the source of the name is needed. Concordia, Missouri
Concordia is a city in Lafayette County, Missouri, and is part of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the United States. The population was 2,450 at the 2010 census. History Concordia was platted in 1868. The city was named after a place mentioned in the poem "Das Lied von der Glocke" by Friedrich Schiller. A post office called Concordia has been in operation since 1865. A large share of the early settlers were Germans. Among these immigrants were ancestors of scientist Linus Pauling. In 1842, Christoph Friedrich Pauling, his wife Catharine and their daughters Rebecca and Charlotte immigrated to the United States from Hanover, with a son being born while they were crossing the Atlantic; they travelled to "a German settlement in Concordia, Missouri", near where they farmed; a second son was born in 1844 and their third and final son, Charles Henry (grandfather of Linus Pauling) was born in 1847. Waverly is a city in Lafayette County, Missouri, and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area within the United States. The population was 849 at the 2010 census. Waverly is the location of Baltimore Bend Winery, one of the many small wineries established in the state since the 1960s. The Waverly Bridge over the Missouri River is located near here. Route 2 (Missouri)
Route 2 is a highway in western Missouri. Its western terminus is at the Kansas state line about southwest of West Line; it continues into Kansas as K-68. Its eastern terminus is at Route 52 in Windsor. Route description Route 2 begins at the Kansas state line in Cass County. The first town is passes through is West Line, followed by Freeman. In Harrisonville it has a brief concurrency with Interstate 49/U.S. Route 71. After splitting from I-49/US 71, it runs east into Johnson County, Missouri, crossing over near La Tour. It serves as the southern terminus of Route 131 before crossing Route 13 north of Postoak. It then runs through Leeton before entering Henry County. It then ends at Route 52. Whiteman Air Force Base is a United States Air Force base located just south of Knob Noster, Missouri, Knob Noster, Missouri, United States. The base is the current home of the Northrop Grumman B-2 Spirit, B-2 Spirit bomber. It is named for George Allison Whiteman, 2nd Lt George Whiteman, who was killed during the attack on Pearl Harbor. History World War II In 1942, the U.S. Army Air Corps selected the site of the present-day base to be the home of Sedalia Glider Base, a training base for WACO glider pilots. In May 1942, construction workers began building a railroad spur for the new air base in an area known to locals as the "Blue Flats" because of the color of the soil. The new railroad line was built by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. The base was officially opened on 6 August 1942. On 12 November 1942, the name was changed to Sedalia Army Air Field.
