Missouri's 3rd Congressional District
Missouri's third congressional district is in the eastern and central portion of the state. It surrounds but does not include St Louis City. Its current representative is Republican Blaine Luetkemeyer. The district took its current form in 2013, when Missouri lost a congressional district as a result of the 2010 census. At that time, much of the northern portion of the old 9th district was added to the 6th district, while most of the remaining territory became the new 3rd district. The current 3rd district is primarily exurban and rural in character and is the second-wealthiest of Missouri's congressional districts, after the neighboring 2nd district. From 1953 to 2013, the 3rd had been located in the southern portion of the St. Louis area, including the southern third of St. Louis City, and had a dramatically different political history from the current 3rd. Missouri Route 3
Route 3 is a highway in northern and central Missouri. Its northern terminus is at Route 11 south of Kirksville; its southern terminus is at Route 5/ Route 240 northwest of Fayette. Route 3 was initially Route 67, designated in 1922 between Rocheport and Fayette. It was renumbered in 1926 due to US 67. In 1934/1935, the route extended north to US 36 in Callao. The next year, the original portion from Rocheport to Fayette became part of Route 240. In 1953/1954, the route extended north to Kirksville, its current terminus. Missouri's second congressional district is in the eastern portion of the state, primarily consisting of the suburbs south and west of St. Louis, including Arnold, Town and Country, Wildwood, Chesterfield, and Oakville.McDermott, Kevin. Whig Party (United States)
The Whig Party was a political party in the United States during the middle of the 19th century. Alongside the slightly larger Democratic Party, it was one of the two major parties in the United States between the late 1830s and the early 1850s as part of the Second Party System. Four presidents were affiliated with the Whig Party for at least part of their terms. Other prominent members of the Whig Party include Henry Clay, Daniel Webster, Rufus Choate, William Seward, John J. Crittenden, and John Quincy Adams. John Gaines Miller
John Gaines Miller (November 29, 1812 – May 11, 1856) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri. Born in Danville, Kentucky, Miller attended the common schools and was graduated from Centre College in Danville. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1834. He moved to Boonville, Missouri, in 1835. He served as a member of the state house of representatives in 1840. Miller was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second and Thirty-third Congresses and reelected as an Opposition Party candidate to the Thirty-fourth Congress, and served from March 4, 1851, until his death near Marshall, Missouri, May 11, 1856. He was interred in Mount Olive Cemetery, near Marshall, Missouri. Missouri's 9th congressional district was a US congressional district, dissolved in 2013, that last encompassed rural Northeast Missouri, the area known as " Little Dixie," along with the larger towns of Columbia, Fulton, Kirksville and Union. Missouri's 8th Congressional District
Missouri's 8th congressional district is one of 435 congressional districts in the United States and one of eight congressional districts in the state of Missouri. The district encompasses rural Southeast Missouri and South Central Missouri as well as some counties in Southwest Missouri. The district stretches from the Bootheel in the south to the St. Louis southern exurbs of Festus, Hillsboro, and surrounding areas in the Lead Belt; it ranges in the east to counties along the Mississippi River and in the west to counties along the Ozark Plateau near Branson.
