Mississippi Highway 450
Mississippi Highway 450 (MS 450) is a highway in western Mississippi. Its western terminus is at MS 1 south of Benoit. The route travels east to its eastern terminus at U.S. Route 61 (US 61) and US 278. It was designated in 1956, starting at MS 1 south of Scott, and ending at Choctaw. Starting in 1962, the section near Stringtown was rerouted significantly. The last realignment was in 1974, where the section near Stringtown was straightened, and US 61 moved east of Choctaw. Route description MS 450 is located in southern Bolivar County, and is maintained by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). In 2013, MDOT calculated as many as 720 vehicles traveling east of Love Johnson Road, and as few as 190 vehicles traveling east of Deer Creek Drive. Scott, Mississippi
Scott is a census-designated place and unincorporated community located in Bolivar County, Mississippi, United States on Mississippi Highway 1. Scott is approximately north of Lamont and approximately south of Benoit. Scott was formerly home to three general stores. A post office first began operation under the name Scott in 1907. In 1927, Delta & Pine Land Company established its headquarters in Scott. It was first named as a CDP in the 2020 Census which listed a population of 90. Shaw, Mississippi
Shaw is a city in Bolivar and Sunflower counties, Mississippi, United States, located in the Mississippi Delta region. The name was derived from an old Indian tribe northeast of this region. The population was 1,952 at the 2010 census. History On June 30, 1914, Jack Farmer, an African-American resident of Shaw, was being sought by a white posse for allegedly murdering Earl Chase, a white man, also a resident of Shaw. Two deaths took place during the intense search: Jennie Collins, an African-American woman thought to have assisted Farmer in his flight, and James Jolly, a member of the posse who was mistaken for Farmer in the darkness. Both were shot and killed as the posse swept through a local swamp where Farmer was believed to be hiding. Farmer was never located. Bolivar County ( ) is a county located on the western border of the U.S. state of Mississippi. As of the 2020 census, the population was 30,985. Its county seats are Rosedale and Cleveland. The county is named in honor of Simón Bolívar, early 19th-century leader of the liberation of several South American colonies from Spain. Mississippi Highway 1 (MS 1) is a state highway in Mississippi that runs south from U.S. Highway 49 near Lula to U.S. Highway 61 south of Cary, roughly paralleling the Mississippi River. It travels approximately , serving Sharkey, Issaquena, Washington, Bolivar, and Coahoma Counties. Great River Railroad
The Great River Railroad is a shortline railroad that runs from Rosedale to a connection with the Columbus and Greenville Railway in Greenville, Mississippi. Formerly part of Illinois Central Gulf, the railroad segment was purchased by the Port of Rosedale in 1981. The line has been embargoed since 2001. Bolivar County and Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad (Rock Island Rail) are planning to reopen the rail line.
