Missionary Sisters Of The Sacred Heart Of Jesus
The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus is a Roman Catholic female religious congregation, founded in 1880 by Mother Frances Xavier Cabrini. Their aim is to spread devotion to the Sacred Heart by means of spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The sisters conduct homes for the aged and the sick, orphanages, industrial schools, sewing classes; they visit hospitals and prisons, and give religious instruction in their convents, which are open to women desirous of making retreats. The congregation operates in 15 countries on 6 continents, coordinated by its motherhouse in Rome. History Maria Francesca Cabrini was born on July 15, 1850, in what is now the Italian Province of Lodi, and began her career as a school teacher. Cabrini Medical Center of New York City was created in 1973 by a merger of two Manhattan hospitals. It closed in 2008 due to financial difficulties cited by the Berger Commission, followed by a bankruptcy filing. Cabrini University is a private Roman Catholic university in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania. It was founded by the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1957, and was named after the first American naturalized citizen saint, Mother Frances Cabrini. Woodcrest Mansion is a historic mansion in Radnor Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Pennsylvania, designed by renowned architect Horace Trumbauer, for James W. Today, it is one of the oldest buildings on the campus of Cabrini University, where it serves as the main administration building.
