Missinipe
Missinipe (Woodland Cree: ''Misi-nipiy'' or ''Mahttawi-sipiy''), meaning "big water" or "difficult river", is a northern settlement in northern Saskatchewan located in Treaty 10 territory and along the western shore of Otter Lake. The hamlet is situated north of La Ronge along Saskatchewan Highway 102.The hamlet is located within the Northern Saskatchewan Administration District and the provincial Census Division No. 18. Etymology There are two similar explanations for the name of the settlement. According to Bill Barry's ''Geographic Names of Saskatchewan'', the name Missinipe comes from the word ''Misi-nipiy'', which is the Woodland Cree name for the nearby Churchill River and means "big water". Tourism Saskatchewan confirms that the hamlet's etymological origins come from the Churchill River but states that the word is instead ''Mahttawi-sipiy'', meaning "difficult river". Otter Lake (Saskatchewan)
Otter Lake is a lake in the province of Saskatchewan, Canada. It is located north of La Ronge and is accessible from Highway 102. The lake is part of the Churchill River system. The Churchill River runs through the lake. It is approximately 10 miles long and 9 miles at its widest point. Access The hamlet of Missinipe is located on the western shore of Otter Lake while Grandmother's Bay Indian reserve is located on the north shore of the lake. The lake is on the north side of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park and one of the park's four RV parks is located on the east shore. Two of the streets in Missinipe are part of the RV park. Missinipe is the Woodland Cree name for the Churchill River. Fish species Fish found in the lake include walleye, sauger, yellow perch, northern pike, lake trout, lake whitefish, cisco, burbot, white sucker, and longnose sucker. Lac La Ronge Provincial Park
Lac La Ronge Provincial Park is located in the boreal forest of the north central part of the Canadian province of Saskatchewan within the Canadian Shield. Situated in the Churchill River system, this provincial park has close to 100 lakes and more than 30 canoe routes, many of which follow old fur trade routes. Summer activities include camping, hiking, boating, fishing, and swimming. In the winter, there's cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. Saskatchewan's highest waterfall is in the park. Nistowiak Falls are located north of Lac La Ronge along the Rapid River. A little more than half of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park's area is water with Lac la Ronge being the largest lake. The park boundary begins on the western shore of Lac la Ronge at La Ronge and extends north to the Churchill River. La Ronge
La Ronge is a northern town in the boreal forest of central Saskatchewan, Canada. Its location is approximately north of Prince Albert where Highway 2 becomes Highway 102. La Ronge lies on the western shore of Lac la Ronge, is adjacent to Lac La Ronge Provincial Park, and is on the edge of the Canadian Shield. This town is also the namesake of the larger La Ronge population centre comprising the community, the Northern Village of Air Ronge and the Kitsakie 156B and Lac La Ronge 156 reserves of the Lac La Ronge First Nation. 2021 Canadian Census
The 2021 Canadian census was a detailed enumeration of the Canadian population with a reference date of May 11, 2021. It follows the 2016 Canadian census, which recorded a population of 35,151,728. The overall response rate was 98%, which is slightly lower than the response rate for the 2016 census. It recorded a population of 36,991,981, a 5.2% increase from 2016.
