Missa Gaudeamus
The ''Missa Gaudeamus'' is a musical setting of the Ordinary of the Mass by Franco-Flemish composer Josquin des Prez, probably composed in the early or middle 1480s, and published in 1502. It is based on the gregorian introit ''Gaudeamus Omnes'' and its setting is for four voices. Sources and attribution The number of sources for this work is relatively high: two printed editions, four reprints and seven manuscripts. The '' issasuper Gaudeamus'' mass was first published in ''Misse Josquin'' ("Liber Primus Missarum Josquin ") (Venice, 1502) by Ottaviano Petrucci together with the masses '' L'homme arme. Super voces musicales'', '' La.sol.fa.re.mi'', ''Fortuna desperata'', '' L'homme arme. Sexti toni'', and reprinted in Rome in 1526. Ordinary Of The Mass
The ordinary, in Roman Catholic and other Western Christian liturgies, refers to the part of the Mass or of the canonical hours that is reasonably constant without regard to the date on which the service is performed. It is contrasted to the ''proper'', which is that part of these liturgies that varies according to the date, either representing an observance within the liturgical year, or of a particular saint or significant event, or to the ''common'' which contains those parts that are common to an entire category of saints such as apostles or martyrs. The ordinary of both the Eucharist and the canonical hours does, however, admit minor variations following the seasons (such as the omission of "Alleluia" in Lent and its addition in Eastertide). Jeremy Noble (27 March 1930 – 30 June 2017) was an English musicologist and music critic. His career comprised two fields, musicological scholarship and music criticism. In the former, he focused on early English music, Venetian music and particularly the life and work of Renaissance composer Josquin des Prez. A paraphrase mass is a musical setting of the Ordinary of the Mass that uses as its basis an elaborated version of a cantus firmus, typically chosen from plainsong or some other sacred source. The Beatitudes are sayings attributed to Jesus, and in particular eight blessings recounted by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount in the Gospel of Matthew, and four in the Sermon on the Plain in the Gospel of Luke, followed by four woes which mirror the blessings.
