Miss USA 2002
Miss USA 2002 was the 51st Miss USA pageant, held at Genesis Convention Center in Gary, Indiana on March 1, 2002. The event was won by Shauntay Hinton of the District of Columbia, who was crowned by outgoing queen Kandace Krueger of Texas. This is the second year in a row and third time since 1995 a Miss Teen USA state delegate did not win or inherit the Miss USA title. This was the last Miss USA show to be aired on CBS. Beginning with the next Miss USA pageant, NBC assumed co-ownership of the pageant along with Donald Trump, and as a result began televising the pageant. Hinton was the first African-American woman to win the pageant since Chelsi Smith held the title in 1995, and was the first titleholder from District of Columbia since 1964. Shauntay Hinton
Shauntay Renae Hinton (born February 26, 1979) is an American actress and beauty queen who won the Miss USA 2002. Biography Born and reared in her native Starkville, Mississippi, Hinton stepped into the national spotlight as Miss USA 2002. After attending Howard University in Washington D.C. with a major in broadcast journalism, she used her communication skills along with the coveted title of Miss USA to work on behalf of charitable organizations like Susan G. Komen For The Cure, Miriam's Kitchen, Gilda's House, the USO and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Shauntay is credited for helping to raise $34 million for all her charitable causes in 2002. Miss Rhode Island USA
The Miss Rhode Island USA competition is the beauty pageant that selects the representative for the state Rhode Island in the Miss USA pageant. It is currently directed by D&D Productions. Rhode Island made its first placement at Miss USA in 1961 and has been one of the most consistent states since 2000, with four semi-finalist placements and one first runner-up placement. On June 3, 2012, Olivia Culpo won the first Miss USA title from the state of Rhode Island. On December 19, 2012, Culpo became the first Rhode Islander to win the title of Miss Universe. The Miss New York USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of New York in the Miss USA pageant. It is directed by D&D Productions. The current titleholder is Heather Nunez of New York City was crowned on June 4, 2022, at the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls, New York. The Miss Minnesota USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Minnesota in the Miss USA pageant. Kelly Lloyd (born 1977 in Indianapolis) is an American model, consultant, attorney, and former beauty queen who has competed in the Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss America pageants. She is one of only six women who have competed in these three pageants, and is known as a ''Triple Crown'' winner. Lloyd's first pageant title was Miss Indiana Teen USA 1993. The Miss Indiana USA competition is the pageant that selects the representative for the state of Indiana in the Miss USA pageant and the name of the title held by those representatives. This pageant is currently produced by Crown Moxie. The pageant is currently held in Noblesville and has previously been hosted by Anderson, Michigan City, Indianapolis, Carmel and Fort Wayne.
