Miss Representation
''Miss Representation'' is a 2011 American documentary film written, directed, and produced by Jennifer Siebel Newsom. The film explores how mainstream media contributes to the under-representation of women in influential positions by circulating limited and often disparaging portrayals of women. The film premiered in the documentary category at the 2011 Sundance Film Festival. The film includes interviews with prominent women in media, such as Jane Fonda, Rachel Maddow, and Katie Couric, who discuss why their personal experiences have made them passionate about better portrayals of women in media. Metric is a Canadian rock band founded in 1998 in Toronto, Ontario. The band consists of Emily Haines (lead vocals, synthesizers, guitar, tambourine, harmonica, piano), James Shaw (guitar, synthesizers, theremin, backing vocals), Joshua Winstead (bass, synthesizers, backing vocals) and Joules Scott-Key (drums, percussion). The band started in 1998 as a duo formed by Haines and Shaw with the name "Mainstream". After releasing an EP titled '' Mainstream EP'', they changed the band's name to Metric. "Help I'm Alive" is the lead single from Canadian rock band Metric's fourth studio album ''Fantasies''. The song was released digitally on December 23, 2008. Background The song was written by Emily Haines and produced by John O'Mahony. Haines said, "This song is the first of many that I wrote on the piano during my time in Buenos Aires. It started out as a ballad but really came to life once we bumped up the tempo. My favorite part of the song is the kick drum sound in the middle section, it sounds like the drums are being played in a cathedral in hell."
